Tuesday- Journalistic Prejudice

Prejudice. It exists and we all have them. That should be the baseline for any journalist to understand. The question is whether the journalist can set his predetermined notions aside and do his job objectively. I did it as a cop and as an umpire. The job is to get it right- all the time.

Not so for some organizations like the National Association of Black Journalists which has gone after one of their most prominent members for criticizing black athletes when it was reasonable, objective and fair to do so. That, my friends, is not journalism, but activism. Something journalism should be allergic to.

It’s the same with government officials, elected or appointed. The US Attorney General is appointed by an elected official, the president, with the consent of the Senate. Presidents appoint politically aligned cabinet members to lead the various departments of our government. Somehow Meet the Press thinks that the AG should be independent of his boss, in this case President Trump. Not the case at all. Todd Blanche handled the Meet the Press insinuation very well.

Both stories come from a prejudiced position. Both cases involve the media failing in its job for reporting facts as opposed to following an agenda.

Dave and I go there today and we’ll head into more Dave Does History in our 8am hour. Here are links to Dave and his work:
