Immigrant Held On ICE Detainer Freed By Federal Judge
(Orlando, FL) --A man held in Orange County on immigration charges is now free and with his family. Lawyers for Javier Gimenez-Rivero announced yesterday their client was released from jail after a federal judge ruled ICE had no right to detain him. He had been in jail for two weeks, but his lawyers say no charges were ever filed. Lawyers say Gimenez-Rivero is from Venezuela, he's here legally under TPS, has work authorization, a Social Security number and a driver's license. One of his lawyers tells the Orlando Sentinel this ruling shows the Constitution still has teeth, even in these politically charged times.
Clay County School Board Member Skips Board Of Education Meeting
(Tallahassee, FL) --A Clay County official could be in more hot water. School Board member Robert Alvero was supposed to appear before the State Board of Education yesterday to discuss controversial comments he made on social media.In a Facebook Live video last year, Alvero said he had 80-percent more negative experiences with the African-American community in this country than with white people. The state education commissioner said yesterday Alvero's failure to show up for the meeting raises questions about his fitness to lead the students of Clay County. Alvero's lawyer says his client is too busy to deal with a woke state agency pushing political correctness and attempting to be the Thought Police. There's no word on what kind of punishment Alvero could face for skipping the meeting.
Miami-Dade County Man Arrested For Self-Check Out Scam
(Doral, FL) --A recent arrest in Miami-Dade County could serve as a warning for those who try to outsmart self-checkout scanners. Doral Police arrested Luis Felipe Lezcano last week for what they call ticket switching. It's when you're scanning items at the self-checkout register, and you hide an expensive item behind a cheaper item and bag both of them. Lezcano allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of groceries by doing this over 30 times. Police Chief Edwin Lopez tells 7News with the modern technology to detect this, you have a high likelihood of being caught.
Central FL Couple Gives Birth To Wrong Baby
(Orlando, FL) --A Florida couple is suing an Orlando-area fertility clinic after discovering that the baby they delivered is not biologically theirs. The unidentified couple welcomed their baby in December after undergoing IVF treatments. However, genetic testing revealed that the infant has no relation to them, according to a complaint filed this month. The couple wants to know whose baby they carried and who is possibly carrying theirs. The case has been transferred to Orange County, where it is currently active.
