As we head into the Thanksgiving weekend we have American values, political values, social media, healthcare and international law in play.
One state is requiring those American values to be included in college courses for the classes to be authorized. Florida has received the go ahead for enforcing its new social media law.
The Brevard Republican Executive Committee, the county’s official arm of the Republican Party of Florida, has long been a divided group. There are two primary factions. Those who believe in actual principles and follow the rules and those who don’t. It’s been that latter running the local committee for far too long. There are the political social climbers who want to perceive themselves as near the seat of power and those who have tried to follow the law and the rules of the organization and do its actual job.
It all came to a head Monday night and while the skirmish was over quickly, the battle for BREC is likely not over. It might be fun to grab some popcorn and your favorite drink and watch the circus that’s sure to follow. Can the decades long ineffective group come together and work toward what should have been common goals all along? It will take a while to find out. After nearly three decades of watching this fiasco, I’m not holding my breath.
