FL Lawmaker Under Investigation
(Washington, DC)-- A Florida congressman is accused of sexual misconduct. The House Ethics Committee voted to establish an investigative subcommittee to look into allegations against Representative Cory Mills.Last month, a judge ordered Mills to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend after he allegedly threatened to release sexually explicit videos of her. Other accusations include violating campaign finance laws, improperly soliciting or receiving gifts and special favors, and misusing congressional resources.
South Florida Congresswoman Indicted In FEMA Scam
(Ft. Lauderdale, FL)-- The Florida congresswoman, who's indicted in a five-million-dollar FEMA scam, says the whole thing is bogus. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is accused of stealing cash to fund her congressional campaign. In a statement, Cherfilus-McCormick called her indictment "an unjust, baseless, sham" and insisted she is "innocent." She faces up to 53 years in prison if convicted. Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced yesterday Cherfilus-McCormick will step down from her leadership role on a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee.
Suspects In Alleged Hate Crime At USF Speak Out
(Tampa, FL) -- Three men accused of harassing Muslim students at the University of South Florida are sharing their side of the story. USF Police say the men yelled at Muslim students who were praying on campus Tuesday. USF said it was going to recommend criminal charges against the men, but the men say they were just practicing free speech. They call themselves Street Preachers, and they say they simply preached their message about Jesus Christ and spoke against the teachings of Islam. They tell News Channel 8 it's something the Constitution gives every American the right to do. So far, no charges have been announced.
Toy Company Pulls AI Teddy Bears
(Undated) -- A toy company is halting sales of its AI-powered stuffed animals after reports they would talk to children about anything from sexually explicit products to where they could find knives. FoloToy has a line of products including teddy bears and pandas that use OpenAI's ChatGPT to talk with kids. A consumer safety report found that there wasn't much the toys won't talk about. The news has caused FoloToy to pull its products while it conducts a company-wide audit.
