Shots Fired In Brevard County
(Cocoa, FL) -- A search is underway to find whoever opened fire on a car in Brevard County. The sheriff's office says someone fired at least 20 shots at a parked car yesterday afternoon in Cocoa on Clearlake Road. Three people were in the car. They were taken to the hospital, but there's no word on their conditions. No arrest has been announced, and there's no word on a motive, but deputies believe the victims were targeted.
Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty For Accused Cop Killer
(DeLand, FL) -- A man accused of killing a police officer in Volusia County could get the death penalty. Seventh District State Attorney R.J. Larizza announced yesterday he intends to seek the death penalty against Eduardo Labrada Machado. He's charged with murder in the death of Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell last month. Jewell was off duty when Machado allegedly shot him 20 times inside a Circle K in Ormond-by-the-Sea.
Student Arrested After Fight At Miami-Dade County School
(Miami, FL) -- A student could be facing charges after a fight at a school in Miami-Dade County. It happened yesterday morning at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. Ariadna Sharpton says eight girls attacked her in the bathroom and left her gushing blood. She was taken to the hospital for stitches. Sharpton is home recovering, and she tells 7News she'll home school the rest of the year. The school district says one student was arrested, but no details were released.
DeSantis Declares UM State Champions
(Tallahassee, FL)-- It's only October, but the University of Miami football team already has a title to celebrate. Governor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday by the power invested in him, he's hereby officially declaring the Miami Hurricanes the state champions. He writes on X the Canes earned it after beating four other Florida schools in the first six weeks of the season. UM is undefeated at 5-and-oh and ranked third in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.
