For my money today is a free speech edition of Bill Mick LIVE. Not that we have free speech, we don’t. It’s Wide Open Wednesday and you don’t have free speech. Oh, you get to choose our topics when you call the show, but there are limits on what you can say and how you say it. The FCC has seen to that. As program director and show host, I see to that; it’s part of my job.
So, as far as it goes, it’s a free speech edition of the show, but let’s not kid ourselves.
Google is trying to regain a free speech image. They are reinstating accounts previously suspended for political viewpoint. An Ohio Sheriff is set on stifling free speech. We’re seeing too many officials who find such things appropriate.
The shooter at the ABC station in Sacramento has been caught and the evidence shows, surprise, surprise, he is not a right winger.
While Jimmy Kimmel returned to ABC network programming last night, two major broadcast companies kept the show off the air. This discussion is not over.
Kimmel did not apologize for the comments that got him suspended, but did try to clarify them. He also has legitimate questions about the FCC and the chairman’s ill-thought-out words.
