House Committee To Discuss Property Taxes

(Tallahassee, FL) --The fight against property taxes continues in Florida. A state House committee will meet on September 22nd and 23rd to discuss the issue. Governor Ron DeSantis is in favor of putting a constitutional amendment on the 2026 ballot. Local governments are concerned about losing funding if the amendment passes.

FL To Get Rid Of Childhood Vaccine Mandates

(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida could become the first state to get rid of vaccine mandates. The state's surgeon general, Joseph Ladapo, says he plans to end all state vaccine mandates, including school mandates. Ladapo criticizes them, comparing them to slavery. Vaccine mandates have been credited with controlling the spread of infectious diseases.

Local School Officials React To Possible End Of Vaccine Mandates

(Valrico, FL) --A local school official finds it frightening that the state end may end vaccine mandates. Hillsborough County School Board Chair Jessica Vaughn was reacting yesterday to an announcement by Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo [[LAD-uh-po]]. At a press conference in Valrico, he said he wants to end all vaccine mandates for children enrolling in school. Vaughn says she's worried children and teachers won't be as safe. She tells the Tampa Bay Times her biggest fear is diseases that were eradicated are going to spread and cause public health crises. 

Orange County Man Arrested For Fraud

(Winter Park, FL) -- An Orange County man is accused of running a Ponzi scheme. The FDLE announced yesterday Winter Park's Jerald Benjamin Clawson was arrested last week. The 74-year-old allegedly solicited real estate investments through cash and bridge loans, promised his victims a guaranteed return and pocketed the money. Investigators say this went on for about two years, and he collected millions of dollars. He's charged with organized scheme to defraud and the unlawful use of registered securities.   

Man Accused Of Robbing Bank, Hoax Call At School

(Anderson County, SC) -- A South Carolina man is facing charges for allegedly robbing a bank, calling in a fake emergency at a school, and making counterfeit money. The sheriff's office in Anderson County says Brian Humphries called 9-1-1 to report that a student had a weapon at Westside High School just minutes before he robbed the Dogwood State Park Bank. It is alleged that he made the call about the school in an effort to divert law enforcement before the bank robbery. After being taken into custody, authorities say it was discovered that counterfeit money was being made in Humphries' hotel room as well. 

NFL RedZone Channel Introducing Commercials

(Undated) -- The popular NFL RedZone channel will be introducing commercials during the 2025 season. Longtime RedZone host Scott Hanson confirmed the news on ESPN's Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday. Hanson says the show's introduction will change to drop its longtime pledge of "commercial-free" football. Split-screen ads first appeared on RedZone in December 2024, featuring brands like Gatorade, Verizon, and Visa. This comes after ESPN acquired NFL Network and other NFL media assets, including the rights to RedZone, in August.
