(Tampa, FL) --Governor Ron DeSantis is introducing Florida's newest lieutenant governor. He appointed state Senator Jay Collins during an event in Tampa. It was followed by a swearing-in ceremony. Collins is a highly-decorated Army Special Forces combat veteran who pledges to keep Florida strong.
Spirit Airlines Sounds Financial Alarm
(Dania Beach, FL) -- Spirit Airlines is concerned about its future. The discount airline says it needs to raise more money to avoid going out of business. In its quarterly report released on Monday, Spirit said it continues "to be affected by adverse market conditions." The airline, which came out of bankruptcy earlier this year, said it's considering selling airport gates, real estate, and some aircraft to earn cash.
Former Brevard Teacher Caught In Trans Controversy Asks For Her Job Back
(Titusville, FL) --A former Brevard Public Schools teacher is heartened and encouraged by the support she's getting as she tries to get her job back. That's what former Satellite High School teacher Melissa Calhoun said last night at a school board meeting. Her contract was not renewed after she violated a state law regarding transgender students last year. Calhoun referred to the student by their preferred name without parental consent. She was fined by the state and placed on one-year probation, but she was allowed to keep her teaching license. Calhoun went before the school board yesterday and asked to be reinstated. Over two dozen people spoke on her behalf, but her status remains unchanged.
Grenade Found At Storage Facility In Brevard County
(Merritt Island, FL) -- A grenade is the reason the bomb squad had to be called to a storage facility in Brevard County. The sheriff's office says the grenade was found yesterday during a fire at the U-Haul Self Storage facility in Merritt Island on South Sykes Creek Parkway. There's no word on if the grenade was active. Thirteen units were damaged by the fire, but no injuries were reported. Deputies haven't said how much damage there was to the storage facility.
UFC Planning Cage Fight At White House
(Undated) - The UFC is planning to bring a cage fight to the White House. UFC chief Dana White told a Wall Street Journal reporter, "that is going to happen," when asked about the prospect of a UFC fight at the White House. White's comments come shortly after UFC announced a seven-billion-dollar deal with media conglomerate Paramount to stream fights on Paramount-plus. Trump has previously floated the idea of a UFC fight taking place at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, saying last month "there's a lot of land there."
