Federal Judge Halts Work at Alligator Alcatraz
(Miami, FL) -- A Miami Federal Judge has ordered a two-week pause on construction at Alligator Alcatraz. The ruling is a victory for the Miccosukee Tribe and environmental advocacy group, Friends of the Everglades. The groups have been calling for a shutdown of the facility until an environmental study can be completed.
Worrell Denies Claims She Destroyed Records
(Orlando, FL) -- One Central Florida prosecutor is responding to what she calls politically motivated accusations. Orange-Osceola State Attorney Monique Worrell was accused this week of improper handling of public records. Former State Attorney's Office investigator William Eric Edwards claims Worrell's staff deleted records and failed to preserve official communications. Both would be illegal in Florida. Worrell responded yesterday and called the claim baseless. She says neither her nor anyone in her office ever directed anyone to destroy records. Worrell adds, though, she'll implement new policies to avoid any such allegations in the future.
Mills' Lawyer Responds To Ex-Girlfriend's Allegations
(Washington, DC)-- Congressman Cory Mills' lawyer is addressing allegations made against his client. Mills' ex-girlfriend, Lindsey Langston, filed a report with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. She claims the 7th District Republican threatened to release nude videos of her. Langston also submitted text messages between her and Mills that she says proves he made the threats. Mills' lawyer, though, says the messages are taken out of context, and Mills never threatened her. He tells WESH 2 all the messages show is that two people's relationship has fallen apart. The FDLE is investigating Langston's allegations. Meanwhile, Langston's request for a restraining order was denied yesterday.
Amazon Buys More Land In Brevard County
(West Melbourne, FL)-- Amazon is growing its footprint in Brevard County. The company bought 90 acres in West Melbourne last week. The eight parcels near I-95 and US 192 will cost almost 60-million dollars. An Amazon spokesperson said yesterday they plan to open an operations facility. The spokesman also tells Orlando Business Journal planning is in the early stages. Amazon already opened a last-minute delivery station three years ago in West Melbourne.
Homestead Teacher Accused Of Throwing Shoe At Student
(Homestead, FL)-- A Florida charter school teacher is accused of throwing a shoe at a student. Authorities say when 60-year-old Sandra Colombo chucked the shoe to get a child's attention, it hit another student. The incident happened in February at The Charter School at Waterstone. The student was not badly hurt. Colombo was fired after teaching for 30 years.
