Communication. It’s what we do. It’s essential in every aspect of life. That’s especially true in government. Sadly, it’s government that’s just not very good at communication.
There are a couple of aspects to communication. Of course there’s talking, or typing, or writing, however you decide to transmit your message. Many times, government fails here. Then there is listening or receiving the message. Government’s not great here either.
Can these skills be improved? Of course they can. The question is, does government want better communication? My guess, in many cases, is no. What government actually wants is control of your communication. Meanwhile, governments continue to stumble around their own messaging and lose credibility along the way.
Such is the case with Brevard Public Schools and even the Governor’s Office. Congress isn’t exempt. Did you see the story about America’s Guatemalan congressman? Boy, did she step on her own nearly illegal toes.
Communication is my focus today. It is, however, Wide Open Wednesday and you may take us any direction you choose this one day each week. What’s it going to be?
