Environmental Groups Attempt To Block Detention Center

(Undated)-- Two major environmental groups are trying to put a stop to Governor DeSantis' plans to build an immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades. The Center for Biological Diversity and Friends of the Everglades filed a federal lawsuit Friday to block the project, dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz." The groups call the plan "cruel" and say it threatens an ecosystem that taxpayers "have spent billions to protect." The one-point-five-million acres of flooded grassland is estimated to hold more than 200-thousand alligators, making escape by foot nearly impossible. Governor Ron DeSantis told Fox News yesterday "Alligator Alcatraz" will start processing undocumented immigrants Tuesday.

Florida Announcing Year-Round Exemptions

(Orlando, FL) -- Florida is doing away with most of its sales tax holidays. Instead, the state is offering exemptions that will be available year-round. They include hurricane and disaster-prep items, like batteries, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, portable generators, and waterproof tarps. Life jackets, bicycle helmets, sunscreen, and insect repellent are also on the list. The state's back-to-school sales tax holiday will still take place in August.

4 People Rescued Off Sailboat Fire In Cape Canaveral

(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- Canaveral Fire Rescue crews say four people were rescued off a burning boat Saturday in Cape Canaveral. Officials say everyone made it off the boat safely. The 61-foot sailboat was located about a mile offshore. No injuries were reported and the cause is still under investigation.

Woman Dead After Man Pushes Into Miami River; Suspect Acts Erratically And Ejaculates On Interview Table

(Miami, FL) -- A woman is dead after police say she was pushed into the Miami River. Miami police say William Youmans, Jr. pushed Marie Roseme last Tuesday during a fight. Roseme died Thursday after being found unconscious in the river. Youmans was arrested and in the interview room, officials say he was showing wild behavior and ejaculated on the table. Youmans Jr. bond is pending.
