The world of college athletics is changing and most of us think it’s not for the better. Florida universities are gearing up to start paying athletes directly in addition to any NIL monies that are being paid. Amateurism is dead or well on its way out.
When I think of dancing it’s not Sheriff Wayne Ivey’s image that comes to mind, but he’s dancing with Lizzo, at least on social media. The sheriff is returning as that infamous rapper Busta Tax Cap. He’s asking for a massive budget increase and echoing the firefighters’ pleas of low pay causing shortages in the department.
In something that could have helped on that front, the legislature failed to access a massive cash infusion by not passing TDC tax reform. The tourism lobby is strong and even legislators who claim conservatism fear the Tourist Tax Mob.
Our Attorney General has been cited for contempt of court. Do court orders only count when we like them?
Are conservatives too impatient? The president’s been back in the Oval Office since January 20th. Is five months enough time to turn things around? I think not, but like the Democrats are prone to do, some in the Trump camp are intent on eating their own.
Programming note: Representative and House Majority Leader Tyler Sirois will join us for two hours on Friday. The legislative session was contentious, exceedingly long and, to many, not very satisfying. We’ll break it down starting at 7am tomorrow.
