Gun Case, Magazines Found At USF

(Tampa, FL) --Pasco County Sheriff's Office says there is no threat after an empty gun case and ammunition magazines were found on the campus of University of South Florida in Tampa. The discovery was made on Saturday, just a few days after a gunman opened fire on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee, killing two people and injuring several others. Authorities say the case and magazines were found in a bathroom near the Fine Arts building. Although PSCO says there's no threat, anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious is asked to report it.

(Orlando, FL) --Expected funding cuts will have major implications for Orange County Public Schools. That's what OCPS officials said in a recent memo to its employees. Officials project a 28-million dollar cut in state funding due to a drop in student enrollment. The district expects to lose 31-hundred students. All departments are being asked to cut their budgets by two percent. Employees are being told to be strategic and innovative in their approach to budgeting. Also, they should prioritize the initiatives that have the greatest impact on student outcomes. School Board member Angie Gallo tells the Orlando Sentinel they’re going to have to be innovative and change how public education looks.

Three Teens Arrested For Attempted Robbery In Polk County

(Winter Haven, FL) -- Three teenagers are facing charges after a violent robbery attempt in Polk County. Winter Haven Police arrested three 18-year-olds for trying to rob a man last week. He was driving a female friend and the teens. After he dropped off the woman, the teens stayed in the car and asked to be driven to another location. Police say while on the way there, one teen pulled a weapon and demanded money while a teen in the backseat started choking the man. The man slammed on the accelerator and drove the car off the road into a swamp. The teens ran from the scene but were later caught and arrested. Police tell News Channel 8 the man is lucky to be alive.

South Miami Police Using New Body Cams

(South Miami, FL) -- New police body cameras are in use in South Miami. The police department started using the Axon Body 4 cameras last month. They're the newest and most advanced body-worn cameras available, and one of the features is real time support. A supervisor can log in and watch the camera's live feed and communicate with the officer. The cameras also have GPS technology that shows their location. Another feature takes effect when an officer pulls a weapon. Once that happens, the cameras of other officers nearby starts rolling automatically. Also, those who interact with officers will get a text message asking them to take a survey. Assistant Chief Larry Corbin tells NBC 6 it's crucial to provide citizens an opportunity to communicate with the department.
