Politics is how candidates attain responsibility to govern and power to do so. The message has to get out; people need to know all they can in order to cast their votes. Today’s campaigning makes that tough as we saw in our recent special primary elections.
Once the votes are tallied, the position won, the job begins. There should be a line at that point, a transition from candidate to official. But is there? Do these candidates ever leave campaign mode to do the business of governing? We’ll explore that idea today as we begin our talk week.
We’ll still have philosophical disagreements. The election being over does not erase difference of opinion. Yet, the elected official has an obligation to govern, not just for his supporters, but for all. We’ve seen far too many cases where quite the opposite occurs.
We’ll kick around weaponizing government, tariffs, Bill Maher’s visit to the Trump White House and more.
It’s good to have you with us for this Monday edition of BML.
