NY Woman Claims She's Stranded In PR With Pet Parrot

(New York, NY) --An 81-year-old New York woman says she's stranded in Puerto Rico because her airline won't let her fly with her pet parrot. Maria Fraterrigo says Frontier airlines gave her the okay to fly to the island with her African Grey Parrot Plucky in a carrier. However, when she got to Puerto Rico's main airport to return to JFK Airport earlier this month, a Frontier rep told her she had to lose the bird if she wanted to make the flight. Frontier admits that allowing the parrot on board was a mistake, adding they don't permit large birds in the cabin. Fraterrigo calls Plucky her emotional support animal and says the two really bonded after she lost her husband, an NYPD employee who died of 9-11 related cancer in 2019. Her son says he hasn't had any luck getting her and Plucky booked on another flight, even a charter.
