(Washington, DC) -- One of Florida's newest congressmen is on the job.District One Republican Jimmy Patronis was sworn in yesterday. He addressed his colleagues in the House and said he's ready to get our fiscal house in order. Patronis also says we have the opportunity of a lifetime to fix this country so our children grow up in a nation that's safe and full of opportunity.
DeSantis Blasts Fine
(Tallahassee, FL) --Congressman-Elect Randy Fine is leaving Tallahassee, and at least one prominent Republican won't miss him.Fine was a state senator from Brevard County who was elected to Congress in a special election on Tuesday.Governor Ron DeSantis and Fine are both Republicans, but they're now at odds with each other. DeSantis said yesterday Fine repels people, and he's a squish. DeSantis also says he nominated Fine to be president of Florida Atlantic University because his fellow lawmakers wanted to get him out of the legislature. Fine hasn't responded directly, but he did write on X yesterday "a dying star burns hottest before it fades into oblivion."
Army Officer Arrested At MacDill
(Tampa, FL) -- An Army intelligence officer is accused of being a predator. That's the word Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister used yesterday to describe David McGillivray. He was arrested yesterday at MacDill Air Force Base for sexual battery and aggravated stalking. A woman claims McGillivray forcefully restrained her and sexually battered her at her home in December.
Retirement Community Being Sued Over Woman's Death
(Winter Park, FL)-- A retirement community in Orange County is being sued over a woman's death. Carol Webeking [[WEBB-uh-king]] died in 2023 after she crashed her car. Her family says she had dementia, and even though officials at Westminster Winter Park knew that, they let her drive anyway.Carol's daughter says she wants the retirement community to take responsibility and make the necessary changes so this doesn't happen to someone else. An official at the retirement community recently told Channel 9 they won't comment on pending litigation.
Chelmsford Man Accused Of Embezzling $328K From Mother
(Chelmsford, MA)-- A Chelmsford, Massachusetts man is accused of embezzling 328-thousand-dollars from his mother. Prosecutors say Eric Borghetti stole the money from his mother in 2019 after she had removed him from a trust. Borghetti is accused of changing control of the funds to himself, and the victim reported the alleged thefts to police when she realized what had happened.Borghetti is charged with five counts of embezzlement by a fiduciary.
