2nd In Nation Under-Insured Drivers
(Undated) --Florida is ranking second in the nation for under-insured drivers. The Insurance Rate Council reports 38-percent are under-insured. A spokesperson said "Florida's state regulations are the lowest in the country when it comes to required insured. Those are very low limits; they are the lowest in the country." The study also showed 20-percent are without vehicle insurance which ranks seventh in the nation.
Petition Seeks To Keep Brevard County Hospital Open
(Rockledge, FL) --Residents are coming together to try to save a hospital in Brevard County. A Change.org petition started a week ago to save Rockledge Hospital has collected almost 15-hundred signatures. Orlando Health says it plans to close the hospital because it would cost too much to fix it after years of neglect from the previous owners, Steward Health Care. According to the online petition, the hospital plays a critical role in the community, and its closure puts the community's health at risk.
Two Arrested At MIA
(Miami, FL) --Two people are facing charges after a fight at Miami International Airport. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office says a man and a woman were arrested yesterday after getting into it with someone who works at MIA. Deputies say the two were late for an American Airlines flight to Cancun and tried to force their way onto the plane. One of them allegedly threw coffee on the airline employee. Rafael Seirafe-Novaes and Beatriz Rapoport De Campos Maia are charged with battery and trespassing. Rafael is also charged with resisting an officer.
Pet Marsupial Wrangled By Texas Cops
(La Grange, TX) --A pet kangaroo wearing a red sweatshirt, spotted hopping on the side of a Texas highway, is back home safe with its owner. The sheriff in Fayette County, which is between San Antonio and Houston, says that a driver spotted the animal and snapped a picture. They were able to wrangle the kangaroo and bring to a safe spot. A post to social media found the owner.
Man Stages Animal Shelter Jailbreak
(San Bernardino, CA) -- A man is under arrest in Southern California for staging a jailbreak of sorts. San Bernardino Police officers say the man broke into an animal shelter in the middle of the night with a bolt cutter and freed several dogs. The early Wednesday morning breakout was all caught on surveillance video, which investigators used to track the man down. All but one of the dogs has been recovered safe and sound. One micro-chipped chihuahua is still on the lamb.
