Contractor Discusses ICE Raid At Worksite
(Wilton Manors, FL) -- A contractor is upset by what he calls a surreal experience with federal immigration agents in Broward County. Shafer Construction owner Jeb Shafer was in Wilton Manors on Friday when DEA and DHS agents showed up and arrested one of his employees. He tells 7News his employees are like family to him, and he feels for those affected. In this case, he says the employee has a wife and a kid, and he has been in the US for about 15 years. Shafer tells NBC 6 he thinks agents were unnecessarily rough with his other employees, and their actions were just beyond the pale.
Florida Senator Wants State To Invest In Bitcoin
(Tallahassee, FL) --A Florida lawmaker is proposing legislation that would permit the state to invest in a popular cryptocurrency. Republican state Senator Joe Gruters is the sponsor of SB 550, which would allow Florida's CFO to invest public funds in Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation. The bill will be considered in the upcoming legislative session, which begins in March. A companion bill has been filed in the Florida House by Republican Representative Webster Barnaby.
Pinellas County Business Sees Rise In Demand For Chickens
(Pinellas Park, FL) -- A Pinellas County business is seeing increased demand as egg prices rise. Patti Reed owns Amber Glen Feed Depot in Pinellas Park, and she says more people are asking about buying chickens to grow their own eggs. She says the demand is crazy, and she can't keep up with it. Raising your own chickens comes with startup costs in the thousands, but one woman who has done it says it's worth it. She tells 10 Tampa Bay it's just a joy, and as much work as it is, you get eggs as a reward.
