(Melbourne, FL) --Driving could be difficult this morning in Central Florida. The National Weather Service has a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 10:00 a.m. for Orange, Seminole, Sumter, Brevard, Volusia and Marion counties. Visibility could be less than half-a-mile, and driving conditions could be hazardous. If you're on the road, the NWS advises slowing down, using your headlights and leaving plenty of distance ahead of you.
Lawyer Has Advice For Parents Worried About ICE Raids At Schools
(Jacksonville, FL)-- A Jacksonville lawyer has advice for parents worried about federal immigration agents raiding schools. Belkis Plata says parents need to teach their children to say "I want my lawyer." She tells First Coast News that's the only way an ICE agent will stop interrogating a child. Parents worried about immigration raids went before the school board yesterday. There haven't been any raids in Duval schools, but the mother of a first-grader says the thought of it is heartbreaking.
Miami Beach Announces Spring Break Restrictions
(Miami Beach, FL)-- Miami Beach wants people to know it's not interested in being a Spring Break party destination. City officials announced yesterday there will be measures in place next month to keep things peaceful. There will be DUI and security checkpoints, parking garages will be closed, and curfews will be in place. The city plans to use drones to monitor the crowds. This follows last year's efforts that Mayor Steven Meiner [[minor]] says set a new standard. FAU To Pick New President Next Week
(Boca Raton, FL)-- New leadership may soon be coming to Florida Atlantic University. The board of trustees yesterday set the pay for the next president who could be hired as soon as Monday. The salary will start at one million dollars and could go as high as one-and-a-half million with incentives. The board will interview the three finalists on Monday, and the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports an offer could be made that day, too. All three finalists are touring the campus this week and holding public forums.
Former Florida AG Bondi Confirmed As US AG
(Washington, DC)-- Florida's former attorney general is now America's top prosecutor. The US Senate yesterday confirmed Pam Bondi's appointment as attorney general. The Hillsborough County native was confirmed with 54 votes. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote for her. He says Bondi isn't his ideal pick, but she's qualified. Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott says Bondi was a great attorney general for Florida, and she'll be an incredible AG for our nation.
Pittsburgh No. 1 City For Football Fans
(Pittsburgh, PA)-- Pittsburgh is the best city in the country for football fans. A new study out by financial website WalletHub puts the city in first place out of 250 cities compared across the U.S. WalletHub considered data in 21 key metrics including each community's number of NFL and college football teams, ticket prices and stadium capacities. Dallas, Green Bay, Boston and Kansas City round out the top five cities for football fans.
