Lawmakers Propose Changes To TRUMP Act

(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida legislative leaders made changes to the illegal immigration bill the governor wanted during their special session. They include a mandatory death penalty for illegal immigrants convicted of a capital offense, maximum sentencing for any undocumented immigrant who is a member of gang, and bonuses for officers who assist federal immigration enforcement. Both the House and Senate passed the legislation they call the TRUMP act .

State Senator Files, Withdraws Marijuana Home Grow Measure

(Tallahassee, FL) -- The legalization of homegrown marijuana looks to one of the topics of debate when the state Legislature returns to Tallahassee for its regular session in March. State Senator Joe Gruters introduced and then withdrew a bill on Monday that would allow some medical marijuana patients to grow two cannabis plants at home for personal use. The bill also included tighter controls on hemp products. Gruters endorsed Amendment 3, the failed ballot initiative that sought to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida. The Sarasota Republican tells POLITICO Florida Playbook that he plans to reintroduce the home grow measure without the hemp rules.

One Of FBI Top 10 Most Wanted Caught During Traffic Stop

(Lady Lake, FL) -- One of the FBI's top ten most wanted fugitives is in custody after being caught during a traffic stop in Florida. Police arrested Donald Eugene Fields the second on Saturday in Lady Lake, northwest of Orlando. Fields was wanted on federal charges of child sex trafficking and state charges of child rape. He was pulled over when an officer discovered the license plate on his vehicle was not registered to the car he was driving.  Fields had been on the run for over two years.

Florida Man With Neo-Nazi Ties On Trial For Threatening Attack On Baltimore Power Grid

(Baltimore, MD)-- A federal trial is getting underway in Maryland for a Florida man who allegedly plotted an attack to destroy the Baltimore region's power grid. Jury selection began Monday in the trial of Brandon Russell. The Orlando man is accused of collaborating with Sarah Clendaniel of Maryland to attack electrical substations to further his neo-Nazi beliefs. Clendaniel pleaded guilty to the conspiracy last year and was sentenced to 18-years behind bars.

Fine Wins Primary To Replace Waltz

(Tallahassee, FL)-- President Trump's pick for an open congressional seat is a step closer to victory. Brevard County State Senator Randy Fine won the special election District 6 Republican primary yesterday to replace GOP Congressman Mike Waltz. Waltz vacated his seat to join the Trump administration as national security adviser. Trump endorsed Fine. Next up is the general election April First against Democrat Josh Weil [[wheel]], Libertarian Andrew Parrott and independent Randall Terry.   

Brevard School Board Chair Addresses Arrests Of Principal And Teacher

(Titusville, FL)-- Some parents in Brevard County are sharing their thoughts on the arrests of two school employees. Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan and teacher Karly Anderson were arrested Friday at Hill-Brodigan's house in Cocoa Beach. Police say there were over a hundred kids there, drinking and smoking marijuana. Parent says it's disgusting and upsetting, but School Board Chair Gene Trent says this isn't anything new. He says things happen when you have thousands of employees, and he's grateful no one was hurt. Trent also tells Fox 35 this may come up at a future board meeting.

Lyft Condemns Discrimination As Detroit Woman Files Lawsuit Against Company

(Detroit, MI) -- Lyft is condemning discrimination after a Detroit woman filed a lawsuit against the company alleging a driver refused her service due to her size. Dajua Blanding captured the incident on video when a Lyft driver locked his doors and refused to let her into the vehicle saying she was too big to fit in his car and his tires couldn't support her weight. A spokesperson for the rideshare company released a statement saying they cannot comment on pending litigation, however their community guidelines explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination.

Congresswoman Introduces Legislation To Add Trump To Mount Rushmore

(Washington, DC) -- Tampa Bay area Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna is making a bold claim. Posting "Let's get carving," Luna announced she's officially introduced legislation to add President Trump to Mount Rushmore. She says his remarkable accomplishments for our country and the success he will continue to deliver "deserve the highest recognition and honor on this iconic national monument."
