Florida Supreme Court To Hear Felon Voter Fraud Case
(Tallahassee, FL) -- The Florida Supreme Court is planning to take up a Broward County voter fraud case. The court said it will hear arguments for an appeal filed by a convicted felon who was one of 20 people accused by the state of illegally casting their ballot in 2022. Governor Ron DeSantis claimed the formerly incarcerated residents, which included Broward's Terry Hubbard, registered and voted while they were ineligible. The case was initially dismissed because it was believed a statewide prosecutor did not have jurisdiction to try these crimes. Justices did not set a date for when arguments should begin.
Florida To Host Training Aimed At Combating Hate Crimes
(Tallahassee, FL) -- The state of Florida is working on a plan to combat hate crimes. Attorney General Ashley Moody says she will host a law enforcement training to address anti-Semitism on college campuses later this year. A recent report found a 94-percent increase in hate crime against Jewish Floridians from 2022 to 2023. Moody says the state has taken extra steps to protect the Jewish community since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th. She is planning to host the police course at Florida Atlantic University at the end of April.
Orlando Fire Department Investigating EMT For Comment Made In Video
(Orlando, FL) -- An EMT with the Orlando Fire Department is under investigation for a comment caught on video. The investigation was launched after a video posted online showed two EMTs talking to each other. One male EMT appears to tell a woman, 'you guys started voting, everything got weaker. 'The OFD tells Channel 9 the comments do not reflect the agency's beliefs, and it's launching an investigation.
Man Robbed After Buying Antique Jewelry In Miami-Dade County
(Miami Beach, FL)-- A man is out thousands of dollars in antique jewelry after a robbery in Miami-Dade County. It happened Saturday afternoon in Miami Beach on 41st Street. Police say the victim had just bought 80-thousand dollars worth of jewelry at an antique show before stopping to get something to eat. Once he parked his SUV and walked away, a thief got out of his van, smashed one of the SUV's windows, grabbed the jewelry, got back in the van and took off. A business owner caught the robbery on his surveillance camera, and he says it only took the thief three minutes. He also tells Local 10 News police told him the victim was followed. No arrest has been announced.
WA Ranked As Healthiest State In America
(Undated) -- Washington is the healthiest state in America. That's according to a new report by health experts at Universal Drugstore, which ranked Washington in first place for states with the fewest unhealthy habits. The rankings were based on several factors, including cigarette smoking rates, binge drinking, and sleep. Utah came in second on the list for the state with the least amount of unhealthy habits.
Lincoln Snowplow Naming Contest Winners Announced
(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln, Nebraska snowplows now have names. Out of 25 finalists, the public voted for eight winners. Winning names include The Big LePlowski, Sleetwood Mac, Ctrl [[ CONTROL ]] Salt Delete, Betty Whiteout, Buenos Snowches, Han Snowlo, Plowabunga, and Sled Zeppelin. Decals with winning names will be attached to eight city snowplows, which will be in service by spring.
