Ex-Florida Officer Sentenced In Capitol Attack

(Washington, DC) -- A former Central Florida police officer and local Proud Boys member is heading to prison after storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. A federal judge last week sentenced Nathaniel Tuck to 14-months behind bars, 36 months of supervised release and ordered him to pay four-thousand dollars in fines and restitution. The ex-Apopka officer pleaded guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from his actions during the riot. Federal prosecutors say Tuck was a member of the Space Coast chapter of the Proud Boys based in Central Florida.

Deadly Train Collision In HillsCo

(Tampa, FL) -- A man is dead after he was hit by a train in Hillsborough County. It happened Saturday afternoon in Dover near Sydney Dover Road and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The sheriff's office says Andres Pop-Tupil was walking across the tracks when he was hit by an Amtrak train. The 53-year-old died at the scene. 

Space Coast Gets $5M For Railroad Crossing Improvements

(Viera, FL) -- The money is in place to make railroad crossings in Brevard County safer. The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization announced Friday it has been awarded almost five million dollars from the Federal Railroad Administration. The Rail Crossing Elimination Grant will support the final design and construction of about 15 exit gates and two medians at seven highway-railroad grade crossings. The SCTPO says this important project will further enhance public safety and create sealed rail corridors to stop drivers from illegally going around gates. 

Suspect Steals Polk County Deputy's Gun While Trying To Escape

(Lakeland, FL) -- A suspect is in custody after leading Polk County police in Florida on a massive manhunt. The investigation was centered around Curtis Young, who had been recently released from jail and violated the conditions of his sex offense registration. Deputies were checking on Young's status when they used his GPS ankle monitor to track him down to Lakeland. The sheriff's office says Young started running when he saw police and tackled a deputy before stealing their gun. The suspect was eventually found hiding in Lake Bonnet. He is facing a series of new charges, in addition to his previous arrest in connection to child sex crimes.

X To Begin Labeling Parody Accounts

(San Francisco, CA) -- X will begin labeling parody and satire accounts. The new labels will be on both the profiles and the posts of those accounts, according to a statement from the social media platform's Safety Team. The move hopes to "increase transparency" on X. Accounts can now place the label on themselves in the settings page, but the company said they'll release further details about when labeling will become required for accounts that fit the description.
