16 Suspects Charges In Palm Beach County Drug Operation
(West Palm Beach, FL) -- More than a dozen suspects are facing charges in connection to a South Florida drug sting. West Palm Beach police say 16 people were arrested as part of "Operation Not on Our Block." The three-month investigation was centered around alleged crimes that took place along Fifth Street in the city's downtown. Officers were able to remove oxycodone, flocka, cocaine, and crack from the streets in connection to the case. The police chief says all of the people taken into custody already have more than one-hundred felony convictions in total. More arrests are expected.
Murders, Robberies Tied To NE Florida Illegal Gambling Ring
(Jacksonville, FL) --Northeast Florida police are cracking down on a string of violent crimes as part of a multi-year illegal gambling operation. Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters gave an update on "Operation Fish and Chips", saying a dozen suspects have been arrested over the last ten days. Two murders, eight robberies, and more than two dozen aggravated assaults were tied to illegal gaming sites in Duval County. During the operation, authorities were able to confiscate more than two-million dollars in cash, 15 vehicles, and over 50 guns.
Police Officer Kills Man In Palm Beach County
(Boca Raton, FL) --A man is dead after he was shot by a police officer in Palm Beach County. It happened yesterday morning in Boca Raton on Northwest Second Ave. Police say an officer was responding to a call about a man harassing drivers. The BRPD says as the officer approached, the man lunged toward the officer, and the officer fired his weapon. The officer was not hurt. Police haven't released any details. A witness, though, says the officer Tased the man twice, but it had no effect, and when the man charged at the officer, the officer shot him three times. The FDLE is investigating, and the officer is on paid leave.
Former South Florida Congressman Indicted
(Washington, DC) --A former South Florida congressman is facing federal charges. The Justice Department announced yesterday that Miami's David Rivera was indicted for scheming to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA. Prosecutors say the 59-year-old Republican also laundered funds to conceal and promote his crimes. According to the indictment, Rivera, four years ago, carried out a scheme to provide consulting and lobbying services to sanctioned Venezuelan businessman Raul Gorrin. Rivera allegedly lobbied government officials to remove Gorrin from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List. Prosecutors say Rivera was paid almost six million dollars but never registered under FARA like he was required to do.
Hidden Swords Big Problem For Airport Security
(San Antonio, TX) -- Christmas is one week away, and many families will be flying. The TSA is out with a reminder about what you can and cannot bring through security. Spokeswoman Patty Mancha says, this week, a man at the San Antonio airport was spotted with a cane that had a hidden sword inside. She says that happens more than you would think. Also, she says agents often see people travel with cookware and power tools this time of year. That's fine, she says, but it must be packed in your checked luggage.
