Lakeland Woman Charged With Threatening Health Insurance Company

(Lakeland, FL) -- A Lakeland woman is accused of threatening a health insurance company. Authorities say the FBI was contacted Tuesday after Briana Boston placed a call to BlueCross BlueShield regarding a recent medical insurance claims she was denied. Near the end of the call, Boston can be heard stating, "Delay, deny, dispose. You people are next. "The first three words are similar to those written on the ammunition that a gunman used in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last week. Boston was charged with threats to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism.

Florida Supreme Court Recommends Adding More Judges

(Tallahassee, FL) -- The Florida Supreme Court is pushing for more judges statewide in order to keep up with a continuously growing workload. The state's highest court released a recommendation saying there should be 50 additional judicial positions. A majority of the roles would be set aside for county and circuit courts, while two judges would go to the 6th District Court of Appeal based out of Polk County. The proposal was slightly lower than the number suggested in a June study, which found more than 80 additional judges were needed. The recommendation will go to the Legislature for further discussion.

Florida Task Force Arrests Woman In Statewide Theft Ring

(Stuart, FL) -- Another suspect is facing charges in connection to a retail theft ring that operated across at least five Florida counties. Lourdes Rodriguez is accused of stealing about 15-thousand dollars worth of items from dozens of stores in Brevard, Martin, Palm Beach, Sarasota, and Seminole counties. Authorities say she is part of a larger crime group responsible for targeting more than 50 businesses across the state and taking more than 100-thousand dollars of products. Attorney General Ashley Moody says a state task force was able to dismantle the organization with a third arrest this week.

Volusia County Republican Leader Files Discrimination Lawsuit 

(Volusia County, FL)-- A member of Volusia County's Republican Executive Committee has filed a federal lawsuit against the party's chair, alleging discrimination. Rosa Campbell claims Chair Paul Deering made offensive remarks about her and others, and had her removed from a candidate endorsement meeting in June. The lawsuit also accuses Deering of discrimination against certain conservative members and making disparaging comments about Hispanics. Campbell says her legal action aims to address these concerns and advocate for inclusivity within the party.

UCF Breaks Ground on 88-million-dollar Stadium Expansion 

(Orlando, FL) -- The University of Central Florida has begun an 88-million-dollar expansion of its football stadium, funded by a Tourism Development Tax Agreement. Plans include adding over 12-hundred club seats, 34 loge boxes, 34 sky bays, and 25 luxury suites. The project, approved by the state's Board of Governors, aims to enhance UCF's athletics program and boost tourism. Completion is expected in fall 2026.

St. Pete City Council Moves Forward With Repairs For Tropicana Field

(Tampa, FL) -- The St. Petersburg City Council is moving forward with plans to repair Tropicana Field. The council approved spending one-point-seven-million-dollars to prepare designs for Tropicana Field repairs. The ballpark was severely damaged by Hurricane Milton. The total cost to repair the structure is around 55-million-dollars, including 23-million-dollars to replace the roof. City officials have been hesitant to spend millions on repairs with Tropicana Field set to be demolished in a few years as part of a plan to build a new stadium.
