Orlando Issues Curfew Following Mass Shooting
(Orlando, FL) -- The City of Orlando is enacting a curfew following an early Friday morning mass shooting that left two people dead during Halloween festivities in the downtown entertainment district. Mayor Buddy Dyer issued a local state of emergency, allowing the city to cut off alcohol sales at midnight and implement a 1 a.m. curfew. The emergency declaration will run for the next week. In addition to the two people killed, six others were shot and a woman was trampled. Police quickly arrested a 17-year-old suspect following the gunfire, charging him with two counts of first-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder.
Election Monitors Dispatched To Polling Centers
(Tallahassee, FL)-- The U.S. Department of Justice is dispensing election monitors to polling locations across 27 states, including Florida. Personnel will watch for voting rights violations outside the polling centers but will not be allowed inside. Election monitors will be sent to multiple areas in Florida, including Broward, Miami-Dade, Orange and Osceola counties to ensure compliance with civil rights laws.
Man Arrested For Bomb Threat In Pinellas County
(Clearwater, FL)-- A man is accused of making a bomb threat in Pinellas County. Clearwater's Jerome Lee Chambers was arrested yesterday. The 48-year-old allegedly made the threat in the parking lot of Dunedin City Hall on Louden Ave. The sheriff's office says Chambers was threatening to kill people because he was upset that he couldn't log into his employer's payroll app to get paid. He was hired to hang door tags on homes to update residents on polling location changes. Deputies say Chambers threatened to blow people up and then got a duffel bag from his car. That scared witnesses and they fled. No explosives were found, and Chambers denies making the threats.
Secret Service Reinforcing Fences At White House, Naval Observatory
(Washington, DC)-- The U.S. Secret Service is taking steps to enhance security ahead of tomorrow's election. Workers were seen reinforcing fencing at the White House and the Naval Observatory yesterday. The agency said the work is not in response to any specific threat but part of overall preparations for Election Day and its aftermath. The Secret Service is also planning similar arrangements at the Palm Beach Convention Center, where former President Donald Trump will hold his election night watch party.
Social Media Squirrel Euthanized
(Pine City, NY)-- A highly popular social media squirrel has been euthanized. Peanut the Squirrel was confiscated from a home in New York several days ago and had to be put down after testing positive for rabies. The squirrel gained more than 500-thousand followers on Instagram after his owner posted hundreds of videos showing Peanut jumping through hula-hoops, chowing down on waffles and other anitics. He was confiscated earlier this week by health officials after it was reported he bit someone. Peanut was reportedly rescued years ago by social media content creator Mark Longo. Last year Longo started a nonprofit for neglected and homeless animals.

(New York, NY)-- Forbes is out with its list of the highest paid dead celebrities of 2024.The new list shows how much money celebrities are making this year even though they've passed on. Michael Jackson tops the list after making 600-million dollars this year from the Michael Jackson Musical that's been touring all over the world. Freddie Mercury comes in at number two, having made 250-million dollars this year. Number three is Dr. Seuss, who made 75-million dollars in 2024. Rounding out the top five are Elvis Presley, who made another 50-million dollars this year, and Ric Ocasek, songwriter for The Cars, who made 45-million dollars.
