Hurricane Milton Claims Double In Less Than A Week

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Hurricane Milton's financial destruction in Florida is continuing to add up. The latest report from the state Office of Insurance Regulation shows estimated insured losses have jumped to over one-point-five-billion dollars. That's more than double the amount calculated last Friday. As of yesterday, more than 100-thousand claims have been filed with a majority impacting residential properties. The overall total is expected to continue to climb as communities assess damages from the storm that made landfall last week.

Florida Poison Control Warns Of Wild Poisonous Mushrooms

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida Poison Control is warning communities about a dangerous wild mushroom that's popping up in the wake of Hurricane Milton. The organization posted a photo of the fungi on its social media pages yesterday, saying recent storms and flooding have caused poisonous mushrooms to sprout. Symptoms can range from vomiting and diarrhea to high blood pressure and hallucinations. Officials are urging parents to supervise children when playing outside. Anyone who eats any part of a wild mushroom is advised to call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.

Volusia County Residents Stranded By Flooding

(DeLand, FL) -- Flooding has a Volusia County couple stuck in their home. Julian Kepler and his wife live in DeLand where flooding from the St. Johns River has their cars underwater. They spoke to News 6 and say the road near their home is OK, but they can't get to it. Mrs. Kepler is worried the water could lead to illness and that they could run out of food. Julian tells News 6 he feels like officials have forgotten them.  

Transit Alliance Miami Grades Miami-Dade County Public Transit

(Miami, FL) -- The Miami-Dade County public transit system is failing. That's the assessment of Transit Alliance Miami. The public transportation advocacy group recently released its report card on the county transit system. It gave the municipal trolleys an F grade. They cited low ridership and long wait times. The group also finds the free service is costing cities an average of ten dollars per rider. In Homestead, it's costing the city almost 80 dollars a rider. A transit alliance official tells CBS News Miami there needs to be more accountability from those who run the trolley service. 

 Man Pulls Gun On Kids To Play Basketball

(Atascocita, TX)-- Harris County, Texas officials have arrested a man accused of pulling a gun on some kids who refused to let him into their basketball game. Benjamin Walls approached the kids on a court in Atascocita [[ uh-TASK-uh-see-tuh ]], and when they declined to allow him to join in the game, he's accused of pointing his weapon and verbally threatening the children and their guardians. Harris County Deputies later found Walls at his nearby residence and took him into custody. He was booked into the Harris County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  

Tom Brady Approved As Las Vegas Raiders Owner

(Las Vegas, NV)-- Tom Brady has been approved as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. NFL owners voted to approve his ownership stake during a meeting Tuesday. Brady first bid for a ten-percent stake in the team in May of last year. The approval process was stalled due to some owners questioning the price offered to the seven-time Super Bowl champion. Brady will face restrictions when it comes to his job as a Fox Sports analyst due to his ownership including not being allowed in another team's facility to attend broadcast production meetings. It also means his playing career is officially over.

1987, 18-month-old Jessica McClure was rescued after falling 22 feet into an abandoned well shaft in Midland, Texas. McClure spent nearly three days trapped in the well.
