At Least 17 Dead From Hurricane Milton

(Miami, FL) -- Hurricane Milton is now at fault for 17 deaths in Florida. State officials confirmed the new death toll Friday afternoon. Six deaths were caused by tornadoes in St. Lucie Country. One death was in Citrus County when a man crashed into a falling tree, and a woman died in Hillsborough County when she was hit by a falling tree limb. In Orange County, a man died after stepping on a downed power line. Officials say they expect the death toll to rise as crews begin recovery efforts across Florida. Over a thousand people have been rescued so far, and officials warn the floodwaters are still dangerous in some areas.

Fuel Tankers Leaving Port Tampa Bay To Supply Gas Stations

(Tampa, FL) -- Fuel tankers have started leaving Port Tampa Bay to supply gas stations in zones hardest hit by Hurricane Milton. Mayor Jane Castor said on Friday that fuel terminals at Port Tampa Bay were entrenched in rainwater affecting the supply chain. Port Tampa Bay's shipping channels reopened Saturday, with the first shipments being fuel supply vehicles, said Lisa Wolf-Chason, director of communications for Port Tampa Bay. Mayor Castor said her priority is getting fuel to areas hit hardest by Hurricane Milton. The mayor also urged citizens to save as much fuel as possible and be patient once deliveries begin.

Gov. DeSantis Opens Free, Post-Storm Fuel Sites In Plant City, Bradenton & St. Petersburg

(Plant City, FL)-- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis opened multiple post-storm fuel-distribution sites offering free gas to residents in areas impacted last week by Hurricane Milton. Sites are now up and running in Plant City, Bradenton and Saint Petersburg. DeSantis said a similar facility would be set up in the heart of Tampa later this week, followed by other free fuel-distribution sites in Pinellas and Sarasota counties in the short term. Residents reportedly will be able to pump 10 gallons of free fuel to tide them over as the state recovers from the storm.

Federal Judge Refuses To Block Florida's Cultivated Meat Law

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A California-based company's request for an injunction on a new law banning the sale and production of "cultivated" meat in Florida has been denied. A federal judge rejected the request by Upside Foods Inc. on Friday. Under the law it is a second-degree misdemeanor to sell or produce cultivated meat also known as lab grown meat. State officials have raised questions over the safety of cultivated meat. Upside was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture last year to sell and produce its products.

Police Find Bag Of Drugs Labeled "Not A Bag Full Of Drugs"

(Portland, OR)-- Drug dealing suspects who thought hiding drugs in a bag with a sign reading "Definitely not a bag full of drugs" didn't fool police in Portland, Oregon. Officers recently stopped a stolen car with two people inside. A search of the vehicle uncovered cash, a gun, scales and the bag with the message no drugs were inside. Police opened the bag and found it was filled in drugs. Both the driver and passenger were arrested.

(Clearwater, FL) -- A baby boy born during Hurricane Milton at a shelter is being called a miracle. Kenzie Lewellen's labor started at her home in Port Charlotte, Florida, just as Hurricane Milton was barreling toward the Gulf Coast. The county says the baby and family are doing fine at an area hospital.
