Milton Expected To Become Major Hurricane Today
(Miami, FL) -- Hurricane Milton is expected to become a major hurricane today. The National Hurricane Center issued an advisory on the storm this morning. They say it's moving erratically eastward at six miles an hour through the southern Gulf of Mexico. It's expected to pick up speed tomorrow. Storm Surge and Hurricane Watches will likely be issued for parts of Florida today. The NHC expects Milton to approach the west coast of the Florida peninsula by Wednesday. Up to ten inches of rain are expected across parts of the peninsula and the Keys through Wednesday night.
Flood Watch In Effect
(Melbourne, FL)-- Flooding will be a concern this week in Central Florida. The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in effect through Thursday morning. Excessive rain is expected, and runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas. Storm drains and ditches could become clogged with debris. The NWS warns the threat for heavy rainfall will increase even further as Hurricane Milton approaches.
Governor Issues Update On Storm Prep
(Tallahassee, FL)-- Over 50 counties are under a State Of Emergency. Governor Ron DeSantis yesterday extended the State of Emergency he first issued on Saturday ahead of Hurricane Milton. It now includes 51 counties. DeSantis says the State Emergency Operations Center is at Level One, and the FDLE is performing maintenance on all equipment deployed during Hurricane Helene to ensure it's ready to use after Milton hits. Also, FDLE agents deployed to other states after Helene are being brought back to be ready for Milton.
Brevard County Residents Start Boarding Up For Milton
(Satellite Beach, FL)-- Homes are already being boarded up in Brevard County. Some Satellite Beach residents near DeSoto Parkway started boarding up windows yesterday ahead of Hurricane Milton. The area was also dealing with flooding yesterday morning, and residents are worried there's more to come. One woman is thinking of boarding up her mom's house, and she tells Fox 35 'we can't take any chances.' Meanwhile, four sandbag sites will be open today in Titusville, Merritt Island, Melbourne and Palm Bay. You can find the one closest to you at Brevard-FL-dot-gov. Bags will be available at the site, and supervised inmate work crews will fill and load the bags for residents.
Rosen Hotels Announces Special Hurricane Rates

Passenger Lands Small Plane After Pilot Experiences Medical Emergency
(Undated) -- A passenger landed a small plane on Friday after its pilot had a medical emergency. The FAA says the aircraft was traveling with a pilot and one other person on board from Henderson Executive Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada to Monterey Regional Airport in California. The passenger was compelled to take control after the pilot had a medical emergency while flying and made an emergency landing at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, California, the FAA said. The identities of the passenger and pilot were not released and an update on the pilots health status was given.
McDonalds Chicken Big Mac Debuting
(Undated) -- McDonald's is looking to expand its chicken products and boost sales. The fast food chain is debuting its newest product, the chicken Big Mac. The sandwich will stay true to the original Big Mac, but substitute burger patties with two tempura-battered chicken pieces. The limited time Chicken Big Mac will be available for U.S consumers beginning October 10th. The sandwich has been on international McDonald's menus for some time now.
