Gov. DeSantis Issues State Of Emergency Ahead Of Potential Tropical Cyclone 9
(Tallahassee, FL)-- A large part of Florida is now under a State of Emergency. Governor Ron DeSantis issued the emergency declaration ahead of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine. The state of emergency covers 41 counties running from the Keys, up the west coast to the Big Bend region and the Panhandle. DeSantis says the system is expected to become a tropical storm as it moves over the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, where further development and strengthening is anticipated.
Routh's Letter Admitting to Assassination Attempt Admitted in Court
(Miami, FL) -- The Department of Justice says the man suspected of an assassination attempt on former President Trump in Florida wrote letters about his plan and stalked Trump. In a new court filing, federal prosecutors say Ryan Routh wrote a letter admitting to the assassination attempt. Former state and federal prosecutor, attorney David Weinstein says the letter filed with today's pleading for pretrial detention is damning and will likely spark additional federal charges against Routh. For now he's charged with two gun-related counts.
Swatting Reported At Volusia County Schools
(DeLand, FL) -- Volusia County schools are dealing with what the sheriff calls a sad and pathetic new normal in our society. Sheriff Mike Chitwood announced yesterday that several schools were the victims of a swatting attempt. He says threats were emailed to Deltona Christian, DeLand High, Atlantic High, Trinity Christian, Calvary Christian and Chase Academy. Chitwood commended the quick response from everyone involved.
HillsCo Store Owner Warns Employees Will Protect Themselves If Robber Strikes Again
(Tampa, FL) -- A Hillsborough County business owner warns things could get messy if a suspected thief returns to his store. Shane Butcher owns R U Game in Tampa on East Fowler Avenue. He says twice this month the store has been robbed, and he thinks he knows who did it. Butcher has shared his thoughts with the sheriff's office, but no arrest has been announced. Butcher says he's telling his employees they can do whatever they need to do to protect themselves if the thief strikes again. One employee has even visited the gun range to learn how to fire a weapon. Butcher tells ABC Action News if things get violent, it'll be on deputies because they didn't do enough the first two times it happened.
California Boy Missing Since 1951 Found Living On East Coast
(Oakland, CA) -- A California man who was abducted in 1951 when he was six years old has been found alive. The "Mercury News" in San Jose reported Luis Armando Albino had been located living on the East Coast. Albino's niece took an online Ancestry test in 2020 that showed her DNA was a 22-percent match for a man on the East Coast. After scouring old newspaper stories, the niece took her hunch that the man could be her missing uncle to law enforcement. Investigators were able to locate Albino in June and he was able to fly to California to reunite with family including his brother. It's unclear if there's an ongoing investigation.
