Seminole County Woman Ordered To Fix Clogged Drain Or Be Fined

(Sanford, FL) -- Some Seminole County residents can claim victory in a legal battle with a neighbor. A judge yesterday ordered Longwood's Diane Goglas [[GOG-liss]] to unclog a storm drain in her yard that she filled in with concrete. Resident of the Shadow Bay community say that has caused flooding throughout their complex. Goglas has until September 29th to comply with the judge's order.

Palm Beach County Wants Money For Protecting Trump

(West Palm Beach, FL)-- Palm Beach County wants help covering the costs of keeping Donald Trump safe. County Mayor Maria Sachs and other officials recently sent a letter to senators Marco Rubio, Rick Scott and local members of Congress. Sachs and others are asking for federal reimbursement for almost seven million dollars they expect to spend between July and November. Sachs writes that protecting Trump requires extraordinary measures, and Palm Beach County taxpayers can't do it alone. Democratic Congresswoman Lois Frankel tells the South Florida Sun Sentinel she's working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to identify resources to support these efforts.

Florida Lawmakers To Hold Special Session To Talk Condo Reforms

(Pinellas Park, FL)-- Florida lawmakers are expected to hold a special session focused around condo reforms before the end of the year. Governor Ron DeSantis broke the news yesterday during a Pinellas County roundtable, where he talked about safety and transparency for condo owners. DeSantis' office says he is working on a relief plan for residents who face higher assessments as buildings try to meet new safety requirements. Structures older than 30 years are required to have inspections and critical repairs completed by the end of December. The governor says he wants to hear concerns from communities to help create a solution that he wants to sign into law this year.

DeSantis Addresses School Threats

(Pinellas Park, FL)-- Several students across the state are facing charges for threatening violence at their schools, and Governor Ron DeSantis has taken notice. In that same Pinellas County meeting, DeSantis discussed what seems to be a rise in threats directed at schools. DeSantis says it's not a joke to threaten violence at a school. He thinks some do it for attention or because they get a kick out of creating anxiety in the community. DeSantis warns, though, that if you do that in Florida, you're going to be held accountable.

Brevard County Company Launches Balloon To 18 Miles Above Earth

(Titusville, FL)-- A Brevard County company says it's one step closer to making space accessible to more humans than ever before. Titusville's Space Perspective held a test flight Sunday of its Spaceship Neptune capsule. It flew to 18 miles above the Earth with the aid of a space balloon and made a safe splashdown. The company hopes to carry people on their capsules by 2026.

Compton Rite Aid Locks Up All Merchandise

(Compton, CA) -- A drug store in Southern California is reacting to rising crime by locking up all its merchandise. The Rite Aid store in Compton has dealt with a wave of shoplifting and is taking extreme measures by placing locks on everything from over-the-counter medicine to paper plates. Some residents say the store has gone too far and it looks bad for the community, but others say it's a good move. What remains to be seen is if the effort to deter crime also deters business.

Boeing Starliner Astronauts To Cast Their Votes From Space

(Washington, DC)-- The Boeing Starliner astronauts who will still be in space on Election Day will vote absentee thanks to a special Texas law. Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were supposed to return to Earth just a week after they were launched to the International Space Station in June, but NASA determined it was too risky and instead decided they would stay in space until 2025. Astronauts have been able to cast ballots from space ever since the Texas Legislature passed a bill in 1997. It specifically dealt with space flight during the early-voting period and on election day.
