Trump Survives Assassination Attempt In Palm Beach County

(West Palm Beach, FL)-- A man is in custody after apparently trying to kill Donald Trump in Palm Beach County. The FBI says the assassination attempt took place yesterday while Trump was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. Secret Service agents confronted the suspect when they saw his rifle protruding through a fence. It's not clear if he fired any shots. Trump was not hurt. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says the suspect ran from the scene and drove off. He was pulled over in Martin County near Palm City and arrested. He was identified as 58-year-old Ryan Routh [[ruth]] of Hawaii. He's due in federal court this morning. 

Polaris Dawn Splashes Down

(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- A crew that made history in outer space is back on Earth. Members of Polaris Dawn splashed down yesterday morning in the Keys. The crew members took part in the first commercial spacewalk, and one of them even played the first violin solo in space. They also conducted dozens of experiments in what SpaceX calls an action-packed schedule.   

Suspect Behind Bars After He Used Child As Shield During Wed. Standoff In Brevard Co.

(Brevard County, FL)-- A man is facing charges after he allegedly used a young child as a human shield during Wednesday's confrontation with authorities in Brevard County. Local authorities say deputies pulled over 52-year-old Randall Miranda around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after he allegedly blew through a red light. When confronted by deputies, Miranda reportedly grabbed one of two pre-school children who were in the vehicle with him and "held the child in front of him." Officials say Miranda surrendered a short time later. Among the charges against Miranda are two counts of child neglect with great bodily harm. No injuries were reported.

Florida Woman Faces Multiple Charges Linked To Alleged Sexual Grooming Of Child

(Hillsborough County, FL)-- A Florida woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly tried to sexually groom a foster child. Officials with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office say 28-year-old Katherine Sticklin worked as a youth counselor at a non-profit organization linked to the state's foster-care system. On Friday, she was arrested and charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and a single count of lewd or lascivious touching of a minor. Investigators say they found evidence of Sticklin's alleged offenses on Snapchat before the child was abused.

UCF Football Remains Undefeated With Win Over TCU

(Orlando, FL) -- UCF football can enjoy some well-deserved time off. The Knights are now 3-0 after winning their Big 12 opener. They beat TCU 35-34 Saturday in Texas. UCF rallied from 21 points down to pull out the win. That's tied for the largest come-from-behind win in program history. The Knights are off this week before hosting Colorado September 28th.

FSU Honors Athletes With 4.0 GPAs

(Tallahassee, FL)-- There's at least one Florida State football player who has something to celebrate. The school on Saturday honored its Golden Torch winners. Those are the students with the highest grade point averages on their team in the 2023-24 academic year. Thirty students were honored, including defensive back Shyheim Brown. The redshirt junior social science major from Columbia County had a 3-95 GPA. On the field, he missed Saturday's loss to Memphis, but he still leads the team in tackles.
