State Shuts Down Illegal Central Florida Gambling Sites

(Cocoa, FL) -- Four Central Florida businesses are accused of running illegal gambling operations. The state's Gaming Control Commission says the facilities in Brevard County shut down last week after authorities found nearly 160 slot machines. Agents searched properties in Coca and Port St. John, which led to the recovery of more than 280-thousand dollars in cash. Arrests are pending. The commission says slot machines are only legal in certain parts of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, as well as facilities operated by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

(Tallahassee, FL) --The field is set to replace retiring Congressman Bill Posey. Mike Haridopolos won the Republican primary yesterday, and Sandy Kennedy won the Democratic primary. They'll face off in November to decide who will represent District 8 in Congress. The winner will replace Posey, who has held the seat since 2008.

Leek Beats Shoar In State Senate Primary

(Tallahassee, FL) --A Northeast Florida candidate can claim victory in a race that drew interest from some high-profile Republicans. Tom Leek beat David Shoar and Gerry James yesterday in the GOP primary for Senate District 7. Leek currently serves in the state house, and he was endorsed by Governor Ron DeSantis. Donald Trump endorsed Shoar, who used to be sheriff in St. Johns County. In the end, Leek won the three-person race with 47 percent of the vote.

Lake Mary Stays Alive In LLWS

They'll play the West team, Hawaii, tonight at 7:00. It'll be an elimination game, so the loser will go home. You can watch the game on ESPN.

Doctor Explains Why Mosquitoes Bite Some People More Than Others

(Cleveland, OH) --On this World Mosquito Day, it might be worth noting that these insects are definitely attracted to some of us more than others.  Dr. Christopher Bazzolli of the Cleveland Clinic says it has to do with the body heat and carbon dioxide we give off, but that's not all. He says the odor we emit is also a factor and since that's based in genetics, there's not much we can do about that. What we can control, he says, is our lifestyle and environment. Dr. Bazzoli recommends using mosquito repellent, wearing loose clothes, avoiding standing water, drinking less alcohol and applying anti-itch cream if you're bitten to reduce the risk of infection.
