Disney Tries To Get Wrongful Death Lawsuit Tossed
(Orlando, FL) -- A New York man is in a legal battle with Disney over his wife's death. Jeffrey Piccolo sued Disney for more than 50-thousand dollars after his wife died after eating at a Disney Springs restaurant last fall. He says the 42-year-old was allergic to nuts and dairy, and staff at the Raglan Road Irish Pub repeatedly assured her there were no nuts or dairy in her meal. Piccolo filed a wrongful death suit six months ago, but Disney, three months ago, asked a judge to toss the suit. The company claims Piccolo can't sue because he agreed to settle disputes through arbitration when he bought a Disney-Plus subscription five years ago. Disney also says Piccolo agreed to arbitration terms when he used his MyDisney account to buy tickets to Epcot last year. In a filing two weeks ago, Piccolo's lawyer said there's not a single authority in Florida that would support such an argument. A hearing on the matter is expected to be held in October.
HR Reviewing Email Sent By TPD Officer
(Tampa, FL) -- An email sent by a Tampa Police official is generating controversy within the department. A TPD spokesperson told the Tampa Bay Times yesterday the city's HR department is looking into an email sent last week by Deputy Chief Ruth Cate. The email was sent only to female staff members, and it was meant to defend female officers after what she called a challenging month. Cate cited criticism some female Secret Service members faced after Donald Trump was shot. Cate wrote that in many cases, female officers can do their job better than male officers. Tampa Police Benevolent Association President Brandon Barclay called the email divisive.
