Florida Warns Parents About Increase In Teen Overdoses

(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida's attorney general is warning caregivers about an increase in drug overdoses involving teenagers. Ashley Moody is urging parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of drug use as millions of students start to head back to school. She says while Florida leads the nation in fentanyl-related seizures, there is a nationwide trend showing young people dying from substance abuse. The New England Journal of Medicine reports that overdose deaths among 14 and 18-year-olds has more than doubled after more than a decade of relatively stable numbers. A list of resources are available at Dose-Of-Reality-F-L-dot-com.

Orange County Commission Approves Rural Land Ballot Amendment

(Orlando, FL) -- Orange County voters will get a chance to decide a controversial issue. The county commission voted yesterday to put an amendment on November's ballot that addresses urban expansion plans. The amendment will ask voters if county officials should be able to stop cities from annexing rural land. Supporters of the amendment want to be able to limit growth in rural areas. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, though, has said the amendment would violate Home Rule. 

Man Who Threatened Miami Beach Official Escapes House Arrest

(Sweetwater, FL)-- A man is on the run after shedding his ankle bracelet in Miami-Dade County. Miami Beach Police are looking for Christopher Pitre [[ PEE-tree ]]. He was arrested four months ago after he was found sleeping in City Commissioner Joe Magazine's car and then pointed a gun at Magazine .Pitre was in jail until a judge placed him under house arrest over the objections of prosecutors. Police say Pitre is dangerous, and Magazine tells 7News the judicial system has failed us.

PInellas County Man Charged In Road Rage Incident

(Clearwater, FL)-- A woman is hurt after an apparent road rage incident in Pinellas County. Jermeria Holycross is in critical condition after Saturday's incident in Clearwater. According to an arrest affidavit, Boris Twillman was tailgating Holycross' car on US 19 North. She stopped and got out of her car to check to see if there was any damage because she thought Twillman had hit her car with his Jeep. When Holycross was standing at the back of her car, Twillman allegedly drove into her and pinned her against her car before driving away. Holycross' injuries include a fractured pelvis. The 57-year-old Twillman is charged with attempted murder.     

Woman Arrested For DWI In Chaska After Backing Into Police Car

(Chaska, MN) -- A woman is facing charges in Minnesota after backing into a police car over the weekend. The Chaska Police Department says officers responded to a dangerous driving complaint on Sunday after a vehicle was seen swerving, driving the wrong way and driving through someone's yard. An officer pulled the car over but the driver put the vehicle in reverse and backed into the patrol car. A breath test at the jail showed the woman's blood alcohol level was point-three-one, nearly four times the legal limit.
