Biden Approves Disaster Declaration For Big Bend
(Tallahassee, FL)-- The Big Bend is in line for federal financial assistance following Hurricane Debby. President Biden has approved an emergency declaration for the area. That'll free up money for Taylor, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy [[LEE-vee]] and Suwannee counties. More money could be coming, too. Florida Division of Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie says we'll continue to ensure every possible resource becomes available for impacted homeowners and businesses.
Fake Mailers Showing Up In St. Johns County
(St. Augustine, FL)-- St. Johns County Republicans are dealing with what one official calls the worst case of voter fraud he has ever encountered. St. Johns County GOP Chair Denver Cook was talking recently about fake mailers that have been sent to voters. The mailers look like the real ones the party sent, but they contain endorsements the GOP did not make. Cook says those responsible could be guilty of copyright infringement, mail fraud and voter fraud. He's asking the FDLE to investigate. Cook also tells First Coast News his group may take civil action once they find out who's responsible.
Human Remains Found In Submerged Cars
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- New discoveries in Broward County could shed some light on mysteries surrounding the disappearances of three people decades ago. Human remains of three people were found yesterday in Plantation. Plantation Fire Rescue says the remains of a woman and a child were found in a car submerged in a canal near Southwest First Street. A search team called Sunshine State Sonar believes the remains were in the canal for 50 years. Another car found in a canal near Wimbledon Lakes Drive contained the remains of a man believed to be there for 20 years. Their identities have not been released. There's also no word on how they died.
DeSantis Criticizes Pennsylvania Vote Counting
(Tallahassee, FL)-- Governor Ron DeSantis wonders why more states don't count votes the way Florida does. DeSantis called out Pennsylvania on X yesterday for a post made by the Pennsylvania Department of State. The PDS wrote that Pennsylvanians won't always know the final results of all races on election night. DeSantis writes that Florida has millions more votes cast than Pennsylvania, yet we count the votes and report the results on election night in an efficient and transparent manner. He adds there's no reason why this cannot be done in every state in America.
Tampa Bay Woman Finds Message In A Bottle During Post-Debby Cleanup
(Tampa Bay, FL)-- A Tampa Bay woman is talking about a discovery she made while cleaning up after Hurricane Debby. Suzanne Flament-Smith told WTSP that she found what appeared to be a message in a bottle. She removed the letter from inside the bottle and saw that it was dated March 4th, 1945.It had been written on U.S. Navy letterhead from the Amphibious Training Base in Little Creek, Virginia.
