Very Old Message In Bottle Found On Jersey Shore
(Ocean City, NJ)-- A woman found a bottle with a message in it while walking along the shore in Ocean City, New Jersey, and it just might set a world record for oldest message in a bottle ever found. The antiquated green corked bottle was found last month by Amy Smyth [[ sm-eye-th]] Murphy, and was inscribed with the words "Barr & Brother Philadelphia," a mid-19th century business. Inside were several items, including a business card belonging to William and John Klemm, two brothers who ran a furnishing goods company in Philadelphia until 1881, and a note referencing a late 19th century Atlantic City yacht called Neptune. Smyth [[ sm-eye-th] Murphy says she has applied to have the bottle vetted by Guinness World Records. It's believed the bottle may have been dislodged from the ocean floor by a recent beach replenishment operation.
