Moody Warns Floridians Of Vacation Rental Scams

(Tallahassee, FL) -- With summer in full swing, Attorney General Ashley Moody is warning Floridians about short-term rental scams. Moody says swindlers can turn dream vacations into nightmares, which is why she's urging people to use caution when booking places to stay online. Scammers can post fake listings for properties on websites and social media platforms to try to entice visitors. Moody says it is always important to research the property, read the contract, and verify potential bookings that appear too good to be true. Residents can report scams through My-Florida-Legal-dot-com.

High Marks For Some Central Florida Schools

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Central Florida is home to some of the top performing school districts in the state. The Florida Department of Education yesterday released its grades for the 2023-24 school year. Orange, Brevard, Sumter and Seminole counties all got A grades. Lake, Volusia and Osceola got Bs. Marion and Polk got Cs. You can get more info at FLDOE.org.

Many Duval County Students Will Have To Walk To School

(Jacksonville, FL)-- There's concern that new policy in Duval County Public Schools will lead to more kids missing class. The school board has approved a new policy requiring kids who live within two miles of school to walk. The old policy was a mile-and-a-half. This change will affect about 11-hundred middle and high school students when school starts next month. One teacher tells First Coast News some students may not want to walk that far in the heat and humidity and will stay home instead.   

Advocates For The Homeless Try To Find Shelter For Those Living At MIA

(Miami, FL) -- Most of the homeless people living at Miami International Airport are refusing to leave. Members of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust went to the airport yesterday to convince those living there to move into a shelter. The outreach effort comes after a homeless man stabbed a homeless teenager Saturday at the airport. Chairman Ron Book says they contacted 21 people, but only four agreed to leave.He tells CBS News Miami they'll be back at the airport today to repeat their efforts. 

South Carolina Hires Firm To Investigate Mystery $1.8 Billion

(Columbia, SC)-- South Carolina is hiring a financial firm to investigate a one-point-eight-billion-dollar mystery. AlixPartners will be looking into the nearly two-billion dollars that ended up in a state account with no information on where it came from or where it was to be allocated to. So far, state officials have been unable to solve the mystery, leading to the decision to pay the firm three-million dollars to get to the bottom of it.
