U.S. 1 Named Florida's Most Dangerous Road

(Undated) -- U.S. Highway 1 is the most dangerous road in Florida. Consumer Affairs released a report earlier this week, saying nearly four-hundred deadly crashes were reported along the highway that runs along the state's entire East Coast between 2020 and 2023. The Consumer Affairs report states that drinking, speeding or distracted driving were involved in more than a third of fatal crashes in Florida.

OIA Visitors Warned About Illegal Parking

(Orlando, FL) -- An effort to crack down on illegal parking at Orlando International Airport is having a significant impact. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority has been working with Orlando Police for over a month now to enforce parking laws outside MCO. The areas of focus are Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, SR 528 and the Terminal C entrance. Since the crackdown started, about two thousand cars have been removed from areas where parking is prohibited. CEO Kevin Thibault says parking can be a challenge during peak travel periods, but parking on shoulders is never acceptable. Instead, he encourages travelers to plan ahead, allow extra time for parking and use designated free cell phone lots when picking up arriving passengers.

Escambia County School Board Wants To Depose 7-Year-Old

(Pensacola, FL)-- The Escambia County School Board is in a legal dispute over whether a child should be forced to testify in a lawsuit. The board on Tuesday asked a judge to allow its lawyers to question a seven-year-old in a deposition. The girl, identified as J.N., is entering second grade, and she's the daughter of Ann Novakowski, who is suing the board for pulling books from the school library. Lawyers for the board argue J.N. has unique knowledge about her efforts to obtain these books from her school library, and the board should not be required to rely exclusively on J.N.'s mother's testimony. Lawyers for J.N. and her mother, though, argue deposing J.N. would be enormously difficult and stressful and would impose an undue burden.

NASA Plans To Bring International Space Station Down in 2030

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- NASA is planning for life after the International Space Station. NASA is contracting with SpaceX to develop a de-orbit vehicle to bring the I-S-S down gently into the ocean when its lifespan ends in 2030. The vehicle will execute the last week of de-orbit burns as the I-S-S goes down. NASA plans to transition to using private companies to operate space stations.
