Another Shark Bite at New Smyrna Beach
(New Smyrna Beach, FL)-- A second person has been bitten by a shark over the holiday weekend in New Smyrna Beach. Officials say 26-year-old visitor from Sarasota was wading in an inner tube in about five feet of water late Friday afternoon when a shark bit him on his left foot. The man's injuries were non-life threatening. It was the second shark bite within 24 hours at New Smyrna Beach.
Firefighters Find Resident's Body w/Gunshot Wound Inside Altoona Home
(Lake County, FL)-- Lake County deputies are investigating after firefighters found the body of a gunshot victim inside the ruins of a burning home Saturday in Altoona. Fire officials say they got the call about the blaze at 2332 Wood Duck Road around 1 p.m. After entering the burning home, responding firefighters reportedly found the body of Michael Gall, who investigators later determined had lived there. Deputies called to the scene sometime later determined that Gall had been shot at least once. No other injuries were reported. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Teen Arrested For Shooting At Car In Volusia County
(DeLand, FL) -- A teenager is accused of trying to kill someone in Volusia County. The sheriff's office announced on Saturday that Ormond Beach's Dylan Pries was arrested for a shooting on Thursday. The 18-year-old allegedly fired several shots at a car on George Anderson Street. Deputies say those in the car narrowly missed being hit at head or chest level. Investigators say Pries and the driver recently had a falling out. The charges against Preis include attempted first-degree murder and violation of juvenile probation. He was ordered held without bond.
Drunk Driver Hits FHP Cruiser In Pasco County
(Dade City, FL)-- Alcohol is suspected in a crash involving a state trooper in Pasco County. FHP says a drunk driver hit a cruiser yesterday morning in Wesley Chapel on I-75 South near SR 54. The trooper was at the scene of another crash when Dade City's Elmer Ramirez hit the patrol car. No one was hurt. FHP says the 23-year-old had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. Ramirez is charged with DUI and driving without a license.
Rubio Discusses Trump's VP Pick
(Washington, DC)-- Marco Rubio says he has no idea who Donald Trump will pick as his running mate. That's what Senator Rubio said yesterday on CNN's State of the Union. Trump is expected to announce his VP pick soon with the Republican convention starting next week in Milwaukee. Rubio says no matter what, he'll be working with the campaign in some capacity to help Trump get elected. Rubio says we can't afford another four years like the last four years.
NASA's Year-Long Mars Simulation Complete
(Houston, TX) -- A year-long NASA Mars mission simulation has come to an end. The four volunteers who took part in the project exited their sealed habitat at the Johnson Space Center in Houston on Saturday. They spent a total of 378 days living and working inside a 3D-printed habitat dubbed Mars Dune Alpha. NASA will be using their experiences to plan for crewed missions to the Red Planet, which they hope to begin launching in the late 2030s or early '40s.
