Jordan Defends Actions In Lake County Election

(Tavares, FL) --A Lake County official is suing to stop what he calls an underhanded scheme to deprive him of another term. Property Appraiser Carey Baker filed a lawsuit yesterday against candidate Mark Jordan and Elections Supervisor Alan Hays. Baker alleges Jordan and his brother, David Jordan, who's the tax collector, conspired two weeks ago to deceive him into thinking no one had filed in time to run for property appraiser. That led Baker to run as a write-in candidate to avoid paying the 10-thousand dollar filing fee. Mark, though, wound up filing as a Republican, which could give him an advantage in November's election since his name will be on the ballot and Baker's won't be. The Jordan brothers deny the accusations. Mark tells the Orlando Sentinel he was planning to file as a Republican anyway but Baker's gamble was like something handed to him on a silver platter.

UCF Changes Policy For Protests And Special Events

(Orlando, FL) --Student protesters at UCF should be aware of a new policy. The school's board of trustees voted yesterday to reduce by two the number of hours that students can hold special events and protests. The new hours are from 8:00 to 8:00 on weekdays and 8:00 to 10:00 on weekends. Also, events cannot last more than five days straight, and camping is not allowed. UCF says they try to review their regulations every five years, and they noticed the last update was in 2018.

Triple-Homicide Suspect Killed In Shootout In Hamilton County

(Jasper, FL) --A man suspected of killing three women is dead after a shootout with deputies in Hamilton County. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office announced yesterday that Javontee Brice killed three women Monday night, including his mother and a cousin. Brice then fled the area and headed north toward Georgia. Investigators believe he was going there to kill an ex-girlfriend.He was found yesterday morning in Hamilton County just before he could cross into Georgia. The 28-year-old was killed in an exchange of gunfire with Hamilton County deputies. No deputies were hurt, and a woman in Brice's car wasn't hurt, either. There's no word on a motive for the killings, but Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells says Brice seemed to have an agenda.

Woman Arrested For Robbing Woman During Fortune Telling

(Ruskin, FL) --A woman is accused of robbing another woman at gunpoint during a fortune telling in Hillsborough County. It allegedly happened last month in Ruskin when Carola Mitchell showed up at Judith Ramirez's door. Mitchell told her she was a psychic, and she'd do a free reading. Ramirez went to her room with her baby and left her mother-in-law alone with Mitchell. Deputies say Mitchell pulled a gun on the woman and demanded money. Ramirez says they complied, and deputies say Mitchell wound up taking 12-thousand dollars. Thanks to a neighbor's surveillance camera, deputies were able to see the car Mitchell was driving as she left the mobile home park. The 52-year-old was arrested for kidnapping and armed robbery. Ramirez tells Fox 13 News the money is gone, but she's happy no one was hurt.

Wax Lincoln Statue Outside DC School Loses Head To Heat

(Washington, DC) --For once, damage to a statue in DC is not being blamed on protesters, vandals or activists. This time, the finger is being pointed at the region's sweltering temperatures. A wax sculpture of a seated President Abraham Lincoln outside of Garrison Elementary in Northwest began to melt in the heatwave and has lost its head as a result. School leaders have taken the head to an artist for repairs and hope to have it reattached in the coming weeks.
