DeSantis Signs Budget

(Tallahassee, FL)-- The new state budget focuses on what the governor calls significant investments for Florida's top needs. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the FY 2024-25 budget yesterday. It comes out to 116-and-a-half billion dollars after almost a billion dollars in vetoes. It's less than the current budget, and it leaves the state with 17-billion dollars for reserve spending. DeSantis says the budget delivers historic support for education, infrastructure and conservation yet spends less than the year before and includes major tax relief. Florida Democratic Party leader Nikki Fried says the budget doesn't come close to meeting the needs of Floridians. She also criticized DeSantis for vetoing things that actually improve our day-to-day lives.

Ashley and Antonio Chappell were arrested, but are out of jail now after posting bail.

Today in History

1966, the United States Supreme Court handed down what would become known as the Miranda Decision. The ruling gave individuals the right to remain silent after being taken into custody by police.

1920, the U.S. Post Office said that children could no longer be sent by parcel. Parents would mail their children because it was cheaper than other ways of transportation if the child weighed under the 50-pound parcel weight limit.
