20+ Fans Hospitalized Friday As Heat Index Tops 102 Degrees At Ocala Music Festival

(Ocala, FL) -- Local authorities are blaming the region's unusually hot and humid weather as 21 fans were hospitalized Friday on the first day of the Rock the Country music festival in Ocala. Event officials say attendees were cautioned to remain hydrated throughout the day, this as humidity in the area drove the local heat-index figure to between 102 and 106 degrees. The festival - which wrapped up yesterday - featured top-tier performers including Kid Rock and Jason Aldean.

Woman Called 911 On Herself During Carjacking So She 'Could Do It Legally'

(Fort Myers, FL)-- A Lee County woman is under arrest after she allegedly called 911 on herself during an attempted carjacking. The Lee County Sheriff's Office says 37-year-old Christy Turman was trying to steal a car from a dealership near Fort Myers and called police so she "could do it legally." Turman said she was being trained to steal a car "in a game of Black Ops," and called police to make her carjacking "legal."She's being charged with trespassing.

Coast Guard Rescues Five Off Brevard County

(Titusville, FL)-- Five people are safe thanks to a Coast Guard crew off Brevard County.US Coast Guard Southeast announced Saturday five boaters in distress were rescued Friday over 20 miles off Port Canaveral. The Coast Guard says the boat and onboard communications equipment became disabled, but they were found because they activated their Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon. The Coast Guard crew from Station Port Canaveral responded and towed the boat to Jetty Park. A Coast Guard official says this case shows how important it is to have a properly registered EPIRB to reduce the time it takes for rescue crews to locate you during an emergency.    

University Of Tampa Wins National Title

(Tampa, FL) -- There's another champion in Tampa Bay. The University of Tampa baseball team won the Division Two national championship on Saturday. The Spartans beat Angelo State, 8-3, in North Carolina to claim their ninth national title. UT is tied with Florida Southern for the most national titles in Division Two history. Brooksville native J.P. Gates was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

LAPD Shows Off Patrol Robots

(Los Angeles, CA)-- The Los Angeles Police Department is showing off its patrol robots. During an LAPD Expo at the Police Academy in L.A. this week, visitors got to see the next generation of non-lethal policing in action. Two-legged humanoid robots and four-legged canine robots demonstrated how they can de-escalate dangerous situations without the use of deadly force.
