Bartow Police Officer Accused Of Child Sex Crimes

(Bartow, FL) -- A Central Florida police officer is facing child sex crime charges. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says Bartow Officer Markanthony Fernandez had inappropriate relationships with at least four teenagers he met on social media. The 24-year-old is accused of giving the victims alcohol and THC gummies before filming them while they were naked. Authorities say he also choked some of the girls at his Lake Wale home. Fernandez has been on paid administrative leave since February. Judd says his termination is pending.

Broward Teen Could Face Adult Charges In Grandmother's Murder

(Lauderdale Lakes, FL) -- State prosecutors are trying to charge a Broward County teenager as an adult in connection to the murder of her grandmother. The 14-year-old suspect appeared in court yesterday, six days after her 79-year-old grandmother was found dead and covered in bruises at a Lauderdale Lakes apartment. A judge agreed to take up the upgraded charges during a hearing next month. Her defense team says they are planning to conduct a mental health evaluation. Until then, the teen will remain in juvenile detention.

Man Sets Himself On Fire In Plant City Publix

(Plant City, FL) --A man is in critical condition after police say he set himself on fire inside a Plant City Publix. The incident happened last night at the grocery store on James L. Redman Parkway. Several people rushed to the man's aid before the 30-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital. An investigation is underway.

Teen Charged As Part Of Global Hacking Network

(Jacksonville, FL) -- A Flagler County teen is accused of stealing more than 800-thousand dollars from five different people online. Per documents from the FBI, Noah Urban goes by "King Bob" and is part of a notorious group called "Scattered Spider." Urban is charged with multiple counts of wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and more. The group, meanwhile, is made up of hundreds of young cyber criminals that's been well documented, even reported on by 60 Minutes.

FHSAA To Change 'Gender' Wording In Bylaws

(Miami, FL) -- Changes are coming to the Florida High School Athletic Association's bylaws. The State Board of Education approved a move yesterday that will replace the word "gender" with the word "sex" within the organization's regulations. The decision is taking place as Florida undergoes legal challenges against a federal rule that protects people from sex-based discrimination in education programs. State Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Junior has directed institutions to not implement Title IX. A hearing regarding the federal lawsuit against the rule is scheduled in July.

Aggressive Otter Returns To Santa Cruz

(Santa Cruz, CA) --An infamous, aggressive otter is back and could soon be wreaking havoc on Santa Cruz beaches. Otter 841, known for causing trouble with surfers, was spotted over the weekend in the area. The animal stole the national spotlight last summer for being aggressive to local surfers and evading capture by wildlife crews. Officials advise staying away from 841 or any sea otters that may cross your path.
