Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday About To Begin

(Tallahassee, FL)-- The countdown is on for the start of Florida's first Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday of the year. Residents will be able to save on supplies like flashlights, portable generators, and pet food, starting on Saturday. June 1st will also mark the beginning of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.The sales tax holiday will run until June 14th. The second event will kick off in late August.

Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting In Volusia County

(Holly Hill, FL)-- A man is dead after he was shot by a police officer in Volusia County. It happened yesterday in Holly Hill on Ridgewood Ave. Police say the man was armed with a steak knife and threatening people, including himself. No details have been released on what led to the shooting. The man's identity has not been released. The sheriff's office says body cam footage and other information will be released today.

Seminole County Announces Burn Ban

(Sanford, FL) -- A mandatory burn ban is in effect in Seminole County. The county announced the ban yesterday. It will remain in effect until the drought index drops below 500 for seven consecutive days or until further notice. The ban includes yard debris, but cooking on the grill is still allowed as long as it's not near the woods.  Violators could get a 60-day jail sentence and a 500-dollar fine.

Governor Signs Bill Designed To Protect Seniors From Getting Scammed

(Tallahassee, FL)-- A new law may protect seniors from getting scammed. Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill yesterday that allows banks to delay a transaction if an employee thinks a senior may be getting exploited. The new law takes effect January 1st.
