Florida Leads Nation In Fentanyl Seizures
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida is spearheading the charge to remove deadly synthetic opioids from the streets. Attorney General Ashely Moody says the state is leading the nation in the number of fentanyl seizures after police conducted more than two-thousand related operations between 2017 and 2023. Arizona is the next highest state on the list. More than 115-million opioid pills were confiscated by law enforcement around the country last year. North Florida Man Accused Of Threatening Hillary Clinton
(Winter Springs, FL) -- A North Florida man is accused of threatening to kill former Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton. The Department of Justice says 57-year-old Eric Brown posted the message on X last month. Authorities were able to track down his IP address to an RV park in Hamilton County, which is north of Lake City. He is also accused of threatening to harm Secret Service agents while they visited his home earlier this month. Brown made his first appearance in federal court Monday, where he was ordered to remain in custody until his trial.
More Florida Counties Under Burn Ban
(Sebring, FL) -- A burn ban is impacting more Florida counties. Counties where outside burnings are prohibited include Highlands, Brevard, Collier, Hendry, Indian River, and Sarasota. Violators could face fines of up to five-hundred dollars and up to 60 days in jail.
Smoke From Volusia County Wildfire Spreads To Seminole County
(DeLand, FL) --A fire in Volusia County is causing visibility issues in nearby counties. The fire started Monday near Maytown Road and Pell Road, and smoke from the fire was seen in Seminole County yesterday. Smoke has also been reported in Brevard County. Volusia County Fire Rescue says the Sandy Drain Fire covers almost 650 acres, and at last report, it was 97 percent contained. Fire officials tell News 6 there are no injuries and no homes are in danger.
Father, Son Capture Suspect In Miami-Dade County
(Homestead, FL) --A father and son are credited with catching a wanted man in Miami-Dade County. Johnny Lott was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing a police car in Homestead and crashing it at JD Redd Park. Eduardo Martinez just finished baseball practice when he saw the crash and then saw Lott jump a fence. Martinez says a teammate at Somerset School and the teammate's dad caught Lott and detained him until police were able to cuff him. Martinez tells 7News the two are heroes. Meanwhile, the 42-year-old Lott was in court yesterday to face charges that include grand theft of a motor vehicle.
