Deadly Shooting In Volusia County

(Deltona, FL) --One person is dead after a shooting in Volusia County. It happened around 9:15 last night in Deltona on Fisher Drive. The sheriff's office says it looks like the shooting happened during a traffic dispute. The shooter remained on the scene and was interviewed by detectives. No arrest has been announced. The victim has not been identified. 

Couple Arrested For Leaving Kids Alone In Hotel Room

(Orlando, FL) --A couple is behind bars for leaving three children alone in an Orange County hotel room. Gregory Pierre and girlfriend Rashay Braynen were arrested Wednesday after hotel staff called the sheriff's office. Deputies say the kids were found wandering the hotel, bruised and crying, while they were left alone for two hours. The children are one, two and three-years-old. WESH 2 News reports DCF placed the kids with a grandparent. 

Man Arrested For Attacking Jogger In Hillsborough County

(Tampa, FL) --A man is accused of attacking and robbing a jogger in Hillsborough County. The sheriff's office announced yesterday that Matthew Green strangled a jogger and stole their phone on Tuesday. The 31-year-old suspect was found hiding in a home in Riverview on Juliano Drive. He was arrested without incident. Green is facing charges that include battery by strangulation and violation of parole. Sheriff Chad Chronister says our community should rest easier tonight knowing that a dangerous individual, intent on terrorizing innocent lives with acts of violence, is no longer free to roam our streets. 

Uber Launches New Security Measure In South Florida

(Miami, FL) -- Uber is using a new security measure to make sure drivers in South Florida feel more safe. Miami is one of the first cities to test out the app's new rider verification program. Starting today, verified users will get an identifier on their profile that shows they went through additional steps to confirm their information on the app. The goal is to provide ride-share drivers with more peace of mind when they pick up passengers.

FAU Releases Polls On Election And Amendments

(Boca Raton, FL)-- Florida Atlantic University has a new look at where voters stand ahead of November's election. FAU released a new poll yesterday. It shows Donald Trump leading President Biden by eight points in the state. The poll found immigration was the top issue for Florida voters followed by the economy. The poll also asked about two ballot referendums. Amendment Three would legalize marijuana for adults, and Amendment Four would legalize abortion up to fetal viability. The poll shows both are short of the 60 percent support needed to pass. 

New Federal Report: NY Has Longest Commute Times In Country

(Washington, DC)-- A new report by the U.S. Energy Department shows New York has the longest commute times of any state in the nation. D-O-E researchers studied nine to fivers and found those in New York spend an average of 33-point-two-minutes driving to their cubicles. Those in Maryland, New Jersey and Washington, DC also spent more than 30 minutes driving one-way to work. Massachusetts, California, Illinois, Georgia, Virginia and Florida rounded out the top ten. South and North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana had the shortest one-way work commutes, just 17 to 18 minutes. 

Shooting Victim Helps Woman Escape Carjacker

(Nashville, TN)-- Police are looking for a man who attempted to carjack two people Wednesday night in Nashville. It started around 10:00 p.m. when the suspect reportedly approached a man at a McDonald's drive-thru. The man refused to exit his car and that's when he was shot. The suspect then ran away and tried to carjack another vehicle belonging to a woman. The shooting victim, who is expected to survive, allegedly saw this happening and hit the suspect with his car, then helped the woman escape. Police say the suspect got away but would likely have serious injuries from being hit by a car.
