Orange County Will Pay onePULSE Foundation's Taxes
(Orlando, FL) --Orange County is picking up the tab for onePULSE Foundation's unpaid taxes. The county commission yesterday voted to pay 52-thousand dollars in unpaid property taxes from last year. The property in question is at Kaley Street and Division Ave where the foundation planned to build a memorial to the victims of the 2016 deadly mass shooting. Mayor Jerry Demings says he didn't want to run the risk of the property being put up on a tax auction block. Commissioner Mayra Uribe tells Channel 9 she's very upset the county has to do this, but she didn't want to risk losing the entire value of the property.
Orange County Commission Discusses New Transportation Tax Referendum
(Orlando, FL) --Voters may get another chance to address Orange County's transportation needs. The county commission yesterday discussed asking voters to approve a new tax to pay for transportation projects. A similar referendum was defeated at the polls two years ago. A public hearing is set for next month, and the referendum could be on November's ballot.
Delta IV Heavy Ready For Final Launch
(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- Tomorrow could mark the end of an era for the Space Coast. United Launch Alliance is planning to send a Delta IV Heavy rocket into space from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. It'll be the rocket's 16th and final mission. ULA is replacing the Delta IV Heavy with the Vulcan Centaur.A ULA official says the new rocket is cheaper, and it'll provide more value. He also tells News 6 with the Vulcan Centaur, ULA has a big future ahead. Thursday's launch window opens at 1:40 p.m.
More Charges Filed Against Fake Uber Driver
(Miami, FL) --A man already behind bars in Miami is now in more trouble. Danny Maurad Avecillas is accused of pretending to be an Uber driver, picking up drunk women, drugging them, assaulting them and robbing them. He was arrested last month and is being held without bond. Police announced yesterday they may have found at least seven more victims. The 49-year-old is charged with kidnapping, fraud, theft and attempted sexual battery.
Housekeeper Accused Of Stealing From Clients
(Pinecrest, FL) --A housekeeper is accused of stealing from her clients in Miami-Dade County. Pinecrest Police released details yesterday on the arrest of Palmetto Bay's Rebecca Eve Kaplan. The 37-year-old allegedly stole cash and jewelry from customers who hired her to clean their houses. Investigators tell Local 10 News she took 10-thousand dollars in cash, and one of the watches is valued at 50-thousand dollars. Kaplan is charged with grand theft.
Airport Scam Unravels On Runway
(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A Texas man is facing federal charges for allegedly scamming his way onto a Utah flight without a ticket. Wicliff Fleurizard got through security at the Salt Lake City airport with a buddy pass to fly on Southwest Airlines. But the flights were full, leaving him stranded. He's accused of using his cell phone to secretly take pictures of another passenger's boarding pass, which got him on board the Delta flight to Austin. Court papers show he hid in a bathroom until the plane started rolling. When he came out, there were no seats left and his plan was busted. The pilot went back to the gate where Fleurizard was arrested.
