Kissimmee Police Give Update On Soto Case

(Kissimmee, FL)-- The prime suspect in Madeline Soto's death is still not charged. Kissimmee Police Chief Betty Holland talked yesterday about the 13-year-old's killing that took place almost a month ago. Soto's mom's boyfriend, Stephen Sterns, was arrested for sexually abusing her for the last four years, but the 37-year-old has not been charged with murder. Holland says the case has touched the hearts of many, and her department is working diligently on the investigation.

Seminole County Commissioner Criticizes Elections Supervisor

(Sanford, FL) -- Two Seminole County officials are engaged in a war of words. Commission Chairman Jay Zembower said yesterday that Elections Supervisor Chris Anderson has created a toxic and hostile work environment. He's asking the state to investigate. Anderson denies that, and he accuses Zembower of playing politics. Anderson also tells WESH 2 News Zembower's complaint is grossly unethical and wrong on so many different levels.

Brevard County Beachgoers Want Solution To Lifeguard Dispute

(Cocoa Beach, FL)  -- A dispute over funding lifeguards could have consequences for beach visitors in Brevard County. The county wants Cocoa Beach to pay more for lifeguards, but the city says it can't afford to. So, starting tomorrow, there will be no seasonal lifeguards at Cocoa Beach Pier, Shepard Park and Tulip Ave. Those visiting the beach yesterday are worried something bad could happen. One tourist says someone could decide to enter the water after a few drinks and have a problem. Another wonders why the county and the city can't get along, and one man tells Fox 35 News the two sides should stop playing games and just find a solution.   

Police Officer Shot In Broward County

(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- One person is dead and a police officer is hurt after a shootout in Broward County. It happened yesterday morning in Fort Lauderdale at a Holiday Inn Express in Harbordale on Southeast 17th Street. Fort Lauderdale Police responded after someone reported that he killed a person in one of the rooms. Police say when officers arrived, shots were exchanged with a man in the room, and he was killed. He was identified as Margate 46-year-old Karl Chludinsky. The injured officer was taken to the hospital, treated and released. The FDLE is investigating, and three officers involved in the shooting are on paid leave. 

Eighty Americans Arrive At MIA On Flight From Haiti

(Miami, FL) -- More Americans are back home after getting stuck in Haiti. A flight chartered by the federal government landed yesterday at Miami International Airport. Eighty people were onboard. One passenger says the situation in Haiti is very bad, and he can't even explain everything he saw down there. He also tells 7News he's happy he gets to live in the United States. 

Lower FPL Rates Expected To Get Approval Next Month

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A proposal to lower Florida Power and Light utility bills is expected to get approval in less than two weeks. Members of the state Public Service Commission recommended approval of the request yesterday. If approved at the April 2nd meeting, customers would start noticing the impacts between May and December. The move is in response to lower-than-expected fuel costs and is expected to save residents more than six-hundred-sixty-million dollars.
