FDLE Investigating Orlando Official
(Orlando, FL) --An Orlando official is accused of using power of attorney to take an elderly woman's house. The FDLE is investigating City Commissioner Regina Hill after an injunction was filed by the woman's lawyer. According to court documents, Hill assumed power of attorney over a 96-year-old woman and took out a mortgage on the woman's home in Lake Mann Estates. Hill's son and girlfriend are believed to be living in the home while Hill lives rent-free in the woman's parent's home in Washington Shores. Hill's also accused of spending 100-thousand dollars of the woman's money on her own purchases. No charges have been filed, and Hill tells WESH 2 the allegations aren't true. A city spokeswoman says it's aware of the injunction, but it has no details on the allegations.
Deadly Police Shooting In Volusia County
(Port Orange, FL) -- A man is dead after he was shot by police officers in Volusia County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Port Orange on Jandon Court. Police say they got a report of a man acting suicidal and when two officers arrived, the man charged at them with a knife. Police Chief Manny Marino says the man ignored orders to drop the knife, and one of the officers shot him. That officer is now on paid leave pending an investigation. A neighbor says the man's mother died three weeks ago, and Marino tells Channel 9 early indications are that this could potentially be a case of suicide by cop.
Haiti Evacuation Flights Planned For Today
(Tallahassee, FL) --Efforts to get Floridians out of Haiti will continue today, and a state official says there's reason for optimism. Two rescue flights from Haiti were supposed to arrive at Orlando Sanford International Airport yesterday, but plans fell through. Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie says they were close, but the situation on the ground is so volatile. Guthrie, though, says people were planning to work overnight to make sure today's flights to Sanford take off. He tells Fox 35 News we're not going to stop working until we can get these people home.
Employees Pepper Sprayed In Broward County Robbery
(Sunrise, FL) --A search is underway to find two people who robbed a business in Broward County and pepper-sprayed two employees. Sunrise Police say the men robbed a Neiman Marcus Last Call at Sawgrass Mills Mall yesterday afternoon. They allegedly smashed a glass display case, grabbed some purses and pepper-sprayed two workers who tried to stop them. No one was seriously hurt.
Two Great White Sharks Spotted Off Florida's East Coast
(Jacksonville, FL) -- Two massive great white sharks are swimming around Florida's East Coast. The nonprofit research group OCEARCH spotted the 13-foot male sharks, named Breton and Bob, just before 1 a.m. in the waters northeast of Jacksonville. They were both originally tagged in Nova Scotia between 2020 and 2021. The organization says Breton was also found swimming south of New Smyrna Beach more than a week ago and Bob was spotted off Palm Coast this past Leap Day.
Travis Kelce In Talks To Host "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader" Reboot
(Kansas City, MO) -- Travis Kelce is in talks to host an "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader" reboot with Amazon Prime. If the deal is sealed, this would be the Kansas City Chiefs tight end's latest foray into entertainment. He previously starred on the reality dating show "Catching Kelce" and appeared on "Saturday Night Live." He also hosts a podcast with his brother Jason. According to Variety, the new version of the game show, originally hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, would rely on celebrity guests rather than children.
