Deadly Shooting In Jax Beach
(Jacksonville Beach, FL)-- One person is dead and two others are hurt after a shooting in Duval County. It happened last night in Jacksonville Beach downtown. The two that survived are in stable condition. Police are looking for multiple shooters. There's no word on a motive. More details are expected to be released at an 8:00 a.m. press conference.
Deadly Deputy-Involved Shooting In Pasco County
(Hudson, FL) -- A man is dead after he was shot by a deputy in Pasco County. It happened Saturday in Hudson on New York Ave. The sheriff's office says Deputy Christopher Howell pulled over Paul Smith, who was wanted for battery by strangulation. Smith was told to get out of the car, but the sheriff's office says he did not comply. Instead, he allegedly started to drive away with Deputy Howell hanging from the open door of the car. The sheriff's office says Smith ignored orders to stop and was Tased. That was apparently not enough to stop Smith, though, and as he kept going, the 40-year-old was shot and killed. The FDLE is investigating.
HillsCo Deputy Arrested
(Tampa, FL) -- Hillsborough County's sheriff is, in his words, extremely disappointed by the actions of one of his deputies. Sheriff Chad Chronister announced yesterday that Deputy Clinton Ormsbee was arrested Saturday for Boating Under the Influence. The 52-year-old refused to provide a breath sample. He has been with the sheriff's office for 15 years, and he's currently assigned to the Court Operations Division. Ormsbee is now on unpaid leave pending an investigation. Chronister says driving or boating under the influence is unacceptable, especially for someone entrusted with upholding the law.
Governor DeSantis Signs Three Bills Targeting Illegal Immigration
(Winter Haven, FL) -- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signs three bills addressing illegal immigration. One imposes tougher penalties for repeat offenders who re-enter the U.S. after being deported. Other bills raise penalties for driving without a license, and ban local governments from honoring any IDs issued to illegal immigrants by other jurisdictions or nonprofits. Speaking at the Polk County Sheriff's Office, DeSantis accused the federal government of abandoning border security and forcing states to fend for themselves.

The Florida Gators are the seven-seed in the South Region, and they'll play Friday in Indianapolis against the Boise State-Colorado winner. The Florida Atlantic Owls are back after making the Final Four last year. They're an eight-seed in the East Region this year, and they'll play nine-seed Northwestern Friday in Brooklyn. The Stetson Hatters are making their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. They're a 16-seed in the East Region, and they'll play one-seed Connecticut Friday in Brooklyn.
Marriages In US Back To Pre-Pandemic Levels
(Undated) -- Marriage rates in the U.S. are back to pre-pandemic levels. New government data shows there were just over two-million-marriages in the U.S. in 2022, roughly six-point-two marriages per one-thousand people. That's the highest level since 2018. Marriage rates dropped when COVID hit, and in 2020 there were only one-point-six-million marriages nationwide. While numbers seemed to have recovered from the pandemic, the last two decades have seen an overall downward trend in marriage rates.
